What? When was Spector ever called the next Vidic? Spector was a RB. Never have I ever heard anyone say Altidore was the next Drogba. Seriously, are you making things up?

Zelalem, Green, Morris, Yamba, Senora, CCV, EPB, Scott, Pulisic, Barbir and the rest of the highly thought of Prospects need the time to develop without the "Anointed One" or "Savior" tags being assigned to them. Give them time to mature and develop through the youth ranks of their Clubs & USYNTs first. Given time all these players could have a huge impact on the USNT plays.

But at the moment all of these players are Prospects only, and are a long ways away from truly contributing at the Sr. Level of International Soccer.

Look at 2nd paragraph, And there were also blogs on people calling him the next Drogba. The same for Spector a couple years back people saying he would be Vidics replacement while at Man U.

It seems like his approval for the USMNT from FIFA has taken forever. Anybody have any idea why the process is so long? I thought for ArJo it went a lot quicker.

There is a FIFA rule that states you have to live here in for at least 5 years Until you reach your 18th Bday. But us soccer is seeking an exception in the case if they don't get the exception then Zelalem will have to wait 5 years to play for the united states which would be 2020. By then will be to late he would probably choose Germany or Ethiopia. Not sure how it works with FIFA but i guess us soccer knows something we don't.

Yeah I don't even know why we have a U20 team. Most of those guys will never be world class players. What's the point.

True, but a few of them will eventually play for the senior team, and because these competitions exist, we should take advantage of them. The club and national teams that best make use of their youth teams have them play a consistent style at all levels, so that even if the players have never really played together, they understand each other when they get together at the senior level. This is because the teams have a clear-cut identity and the players know how the team is supposed to play and what their individual roles are within the system. Barcelona is the best example of this, and every player who has played there knows exactly how he he should play and what his other teammates are doing even when he can't see them. World class players often struggle to integrate with the team (Ibrahimovic) because the guys that have been playing there since their youth club days have such a developed understanding of how the team is supposed to play that they're almost psychic.

We're not Barcelona but since we're a young soccer culture and want to progress, we need to start building an identity. This is what Klinsmann and Reyna want to do, and like him or not as a manager, I much prefer having a technical director with big ideas and the goal of bringing us forward rather than someone who simply wants to win the next match and continue the status quo.

The new news on Gedion is that FIFA is still stonewalling US soccer right now. US soccer is still getting "documentation" that supports Gedion being granted his exception.

If I was a betting man, than his exception probably won't be approved before Ramos has to submit his 30 man initial roster for the U-20 WC.

Which means if it gets approved after, one would think Klinsmann will be putting Gedion on the Gold Cup roster.

I have heard that the German FA has been fighting the exception.

NICE we got the German FA hating us!!! Hey germie, w/ regards to your german/american youths.. if you liked them then you should have put a (cap) on them!!!

This makes the friendly coming up real delicious. I for one, welcome a German onslaught on our guys..

....disregarding historical context...

someone inform me, was that too soon?

May 10th is the key date to keep track of for Zelalem. According to FIFA rules final rosters are due 10 days before your first game. Our first game is May 30th. Changes to the provisional 35 man roster are only allowed up until 10 days before final rosters are due. That means by May 10th if his situation isnt taken care of he won't be eligible for US at the U20 World Cup. Since May 10th is a sunday we should know the friday before (next friday) whether he'll have a chance.

I havent been able to find the US provisional roster yet.

They could easily put him on the 35 man roster if he hasn't gotten clearance yet.

If he is not on the 35 man roster, than that means he definitely won't be eligible come Gold Cup. And the USA would know it.

If he is on the 35 man roster, it still doesn't mean he'll be eligible, just that the USA thinks there is a reasonable chance and they are putting him on the provisional roster just in case he gets cleared.

So May 10th we'll have a better idea of the timeline for his eligibility. But we may not know for sure until May 20th.
