Regarding his age. . . I'd like to hear others' opinion on this (do I have my facts straight?). . . He grew a few inches after he joined MLS, right? So, if he did enter MLS at age 14 this makes sense. If he joined at age 18, while maybe not biologically impossible, I think it's very unlikely that he would have grew a few more inches.

I pray he does well. If JK's plan to get the inner city kids to even become remotely interested in Soccer here, you need Adu to do well get his form and make a big name for himself again, as well as other talented African American and Hispanic players. They've got to start winning real competitions and in the next 4-8 years.

No i believe what you are saying. Your basically saying inner city kids need to see someone that looks like them, that they can relate to and for him to say look, Football Basketball are great..but so is soccer. Show that he loves the game, and that you can more famous then just about every basketball player and football player world wide besides 4 people I can think of. Jordan, Lebron, Ming, and Kobe.

If they realize that they can be bigger then Football and Basketball, and show them that its cool to play soccer maybe it will draw interest.

The USMNT needs to start winning now though, and putting exciting players on the pitch that will get these kids excited to watch. If you take a classroom of inner city kids, put a highlight reel of Adu and then put up a highlight reel of dempsey and afterwards ask who they want to see RIGHT NOW, I'm guessing 90-95% would say Adu.

JK and the USSF have to bend a little. there are 23 spots on the roster, he should be at least on the bench. We have to get these young kids in the inner city and also THE SOUTH playing the game. Just imagine if SEC country and the Big 10 were Soccer powers instead of football.... Guys like Lalas and others wouldnt even have had a shot.

Freddy Adu is in Bahia's 18 man squad for Sunday's game. He could feature due to 6 players being out with injury.

I really do hope he turns the corner in his career down in Brasil.

Good luck Freddy I shall be watching to see if you make your debut.

What we need are fo guys like Jozy, Villareal, Omar, Cuevas, Yedlin to develop and get big transfers over seas. It all comes down to money. As a 19 year old if your good at basketball you can get 10-15 million. In football as a 21 year old you can get 20+ mill. In soccer your getting 500k, if that. But if we start having 18-23 year olds getting 10mil pounds in transfers, it'll be another path for these athletes to secure a big payday

I am not an Adu fan in the slightest (see some of my previous posts). However I think its best to root for his success at Bahia. Im not talking about getting more chances with US team (different arguement) but his success could lead to future 17-21 year olds getting chances which would be huge for our future. If he is succesful its only a matter of time before teams like Flamencio, Vasco, Corinthians, look to US for talent too

Agree 100%. If Adu gets PT at Bahia and shows he has a good attitude he definitely deserves to play on the NT. And it would be exactly what we need (a creative player on offense) and always have needed (we've never had a true #10, no American player has been creative enough). Basically a dream come true for a USNT fan right now.

My dream lineup would be:

Altidore
Shea Adu Dempsey
Torres Jones

(Donovan would come on as a sub when Adu got tired). And maybe Bradley instead of Jones.

That's assuming Shea gets PT at Stoke and puts some good performances in for the NT and Adu does the same for Bahia. I'd be pleasantly surprised if either happened.

Basically you guys are saying in more words or less that "wouldn't it be sweet if black people played soccer."

I agree. For whatever reason (cultural, social, economic, biological, whatever), most of our biggest, strongest, fastest, and most skilled athletes are black. Yet very few black people play soccer.

Still though we won't get good at soccer until it becomes really popular culturally and young kids start taking it seriously. Soccer is huge in the US but just as a light recreational sport for schoolkids. In any other country it's all they play, watch, and talk about, from the time they can walk, so the players (and coaches) they produce are lightyears ahead of ours even though we have tons of people playing the sport now.

Just glad to see him back on the field, hopefully he can get more minutes in the run up to the Brazilian season.

This coach plays ultradefensive, conservative, unimaginative soccer. Freddy is screwed.

I heard freddy had approx. 2 touches. One was a turnover the other was a nice pass that lead to another pass that threatened the oppositions goal.
