His ceiling is higher at RB? He has had trouble defending in the MLS in ever season thus far vs. he had big success attacking international caliber players in a World Cup group of death and round of 16: hmmm.....

Every season? One full season. He seem to do just fine defending against world class players last week. As far as attacking, he was playing against CBs....where his one move, is baiting and then blowing by them with pace. What happens against outside backs that can keep up with pace.....he doesn't have the ability on the ball to play against quality outside backs.

Can you name some outside backs that were U-20 that were known for their defensive abilities early on above their attacking prowess?

Like everyone Yedlin had his days off like that Revs demolishing were he got exposed 5-0. Overall yedlin should stay at RB because we have Green to cover RW/RM. Not only that but the kid is still just that a kid. Only been in seattle for a full season cut him a bit of slack for well defending Hazard

Not seeing Yedlin as a winger. His strength is running down the right side of the pitch and sending in great crosses. A modern day winger is asked to do so much more, drifting inside, often interchanging the rest of midfield and forwards. He has not shown this skill, maybe he has it and has just not been asked to display it. What he is: a potentially world class RB, an American Danny Alves. I'll take that anyday.

Yedlin is a RB he should not even try to become a winger. They will teach him how to defend better. He can be like a jordi alba.

Hes a right back he worked well getting up the pitch due to the right wing at the time because Bedoya was cutting inside. Also he did a good job neutralizing Eden Hazard. People are enamored with his attacking play but hes more of a dani alves/ Jordi Alba then he is a Gareth Bale back to wing. He can be moved up in the formation but his development should be at right back.

If Yedlin could sit behind Maicon and learn from one of the best to play there the last 20 years, that would be fantastic. Other than that, playing for Genoa against better teams, we will all have an opportunity to prove or disprove that he can guard international level wingers as Genoa will be defending a bit.

Napoli and Anderlecht as well as Roma being talked about as having submitted "firm offers" but nothing really concrete.

He's got as much potential as we could hope for, I think any move is a good step in the right direction.

Lol SKY sports. "He looks unlikely to return to play for Seattle." He is in Seattle already looking to play tonight in the USOC.

Yeah I thought that was a bit strange, unless there's pen to paper happening right now, he's still under contract and will be playing until they're not allowed to field him anymore.

Not necessarily. In all sports when a player is on the verge of being traded the team that he's currently on usually holds him out since an injury can make the trade/sale fall apart.

Look at Dempsey when he left Fulham for Spurs, he stopped playing/practicing with Fulham as Fulham didnt want him to get hurt and take away their income from selling him

That makes sense, though I wouldn't expect that to be such a big deal with a young prospect that would have plenty of time to heal before they'd be expected to make an impact on the squad...

If I were one of the suitors, I'd want to see him play a time or two more with Seattle just to be sure that his WC performances weren't just a flash in the pan...another pundit put it very well when he said that Yedlin looked great in the WC, but the handful or so games before he left Seattle to join the squad he looked bad...terrible even...for the money I'm sure MLS/Seattle is asking for him, I fully anticipate the interested clubs to do their due diligence and not just jump at the chance to spend big money on a (relatively) untested youth.

The list of teams who have made formal bids is now up to Roma, Napoli, Anderlecht, Lyon and Genoa. Not too shabby, hopefully the MLS ends up with a nice transfer fee.
