Let me try to say this without hurting all of your feelings.

I've lived in LA and SD. I am half white/half hispanic. I grew up in upper middle class. Why the hell would I want to be around a mostly latino demographic in East LA? Seriously what appeal does that have to a person who never grew up around ghettos or latinos ?????? How would this appeal to white, black, asian, middle eastern people, etc ??

San Diego Xolos are becoming the SD team ??? You mean all the mexicans living in SD? because I know all the other cultures aren't rooting for them or could care less.

You do realize if you want to cater to a mostly hispanic demographic, you re gonna lose out on the $$$$ Chivas USA is an example of that. What Ethnic groups makes the most $$$ in San Diego ??? Caucasians..... What would make you think they would spend money to watch a mostly latino team ???? They Wouldn't !

You re not getting a team in SD for a long time. Ive already explained that enough. Sell them, move them to AZ, rebrand and put together a team that caters to all of the demographics...

Im all for an expansion team in San Francisco. But guess what: You would need a chinese player, japanese player, italian player, brazilian player, and a mexican player to appeal to that city. You want more fans.... bring in some english and irish players.... more fans bring in some middle eastern players.... Get my point

The good people of San Diego, you know the ones who make all the $$$ and make up most of San Diego, sure spend alot of money watching a mostly all Black Chargers team lol..... If Chivas were a winning club and could challenge the Galaxy year in and year out the team could be full of Iraqi's they wouldnt care. I'm not sure when people will realize that its all about WINNING. If your good, they will come. If you get your wish and the entire team is a freaking reading rainbow....but they SUCK, NO ONE IS GOING TO COME OUT AND WATCH THEM.

Blaise actually has sort of a point which you all are missing. He isn't talking about white people not rooting for Mexican players... That's stupid and obviously America is full of every race and when your team made of your brothers of whatever race wins you share that pride.

His point is that Chivas USA is built to be a Mexican team. This is the simple truth. Actually, the ironic counterexample is their goalie... One of the best in MLS right now and he's white. Its not about the races of the players... Its about the team affiliation. Chivas USA is designed for Chicanos. End of story. You are missing out on the other 80% of America; black white Asian (not to mention all the central Americans who hate Mexico!) what have you. Its simply poor business.

That's all (I think) Blaise was trying to say. And he is right. They need to drop being a Mexican team. Its as dumb as opening a team for some other sport in another country called like... The Mexico City Yankees, where everything is done in English only all the way to the broadcasting/advertising. AKA it would be a complete fail...

For more examples of this complete fail, I show you exhibit A, Chivas USA...

Vergara is allegedly considering whether to sell the Chivas entity (Guadalajara & USA) for $700 million to shady Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim.

So perhaps the team could be undergoing another "philosophy shift" if indeed Vergara does decide to sell.

I get what they were trying to do with Chivas USA. We have a massive untapped soccer market in the US in chicanos. If chicanos cared about MLS as much they did about Liga MX the league would be much more profitable and covered by the media. It would also encourage many more chicanos to start liking soccer (most actually don't because they are trying to be American), which would then make the league even more popular. If that happened than our player pool would get a lot better, both in the MLS and even for the national team (assuming most of them decided to play for the US instead of Mexico).

But yeah Chivas USA has been a massive failure. Either it's because they did it poorly (maybe stadium location, marketing, etc.) or because the chicanos that like soccer do it because of pride for their heritage and rooting for an MLS team is not something they would do. A lot of comments on soccer articles would suggest that this is the case, though that's not necessarily a good indicator of anything.

I completely disagree with the "If you win they will come philosophy." Just look at Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Falcons, Atlana Hawks, pretty much any team from Atlanta. Those teams were successful and winning games, but still can't come close to selling out. Blaise's point about promoting certain players to entice fans of that demographic to come out to the games is right on, especially for soccer. As much as I wish it weren't true, but the sport needs to spend more time convincing fans to support their club than say NFL fans.

In 2008, there was a group looking into New Orleans(my hometown) as a possible future MLS franchise. As there are about a thousands reasons why it wouldn't work from small population to weather(it's miserable here in the summer) to no corporate support, what we do have is a large Hispanic population due to the migrant workers settling after Katrina. Even before Katrina, we had the largest Honduran population in America and it has grown. So for me, if I was the owner of this fictitious MLS franchise, the first thing I would have done was sign Palacios, Carlos Costly, and as many top flight Honduran players as possible. I wouldn't call the team FC Catrachos, but I would definitely take advantage of the population I have here.

The reports says is gonna cost 700 million.. 300 million for cd guadalajara, 200 million for estadio ominilife, 200 million for chivas usa... Idk but i really doubt chivas usa is worth 200 million.. They have nothing to offer not even a stadium.. I will be happy if they leave and rebrand,, maybe oklahoma fc ? Atlanta fc ?

Once again let me try to say this without hurting anyones feelings.

The reason the "Caucasian group" spends money in sports and supports mostly black teams is because they "identify" with the black community. The black community has been engraved in the US culture since the birth of the US nation. I grew up watching "Sanford and son, good times, the jeffersons, and Soul Train re-runs. Not to mention different strokes, Fat Albert, Webster, Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, Martin, Family Matters etc. I honestly can say the only latino thing I ever watched was La Bamba.....

I grew up playing American Sports which was Black and White. There were some hispanic players on my team but they were all 3rd generation kids.

There is a disconnect in the mexican community with other cultures in the USA. We've only really seen the mexican culture here in the last 20 years and its mostly viewed in a negative way.

Since soccer is not a popular sport here and there is barely any mexican influence in American Sports from a players perspective (baseball a little more), the support is not there.

Im all for the sport of soccer growing here but most people here will support something they can identify with. I love mexican american players because they bring a different kind of skill set. Do i want a team with majority of mexicans on it - HELL NO. I want to see a team that is a representation of all cultures in the USA.

Chivas USA FAILS because it represents one demographic ...............

Atlanta is where pro sports teams go to die. It should go to North Carolina if it goes to the SE. Florida is an option but that isn't the SE culturally speaking so I don't count it there. NC has a very strong soccer culture and the Railhawks have a solid team and an expanded stadium. I would hit up an already proven market in NASL. This is what actually makes sense. They should expand to all the proven NASL/USL markets with decent population size. Then, make up NASL and the lower tiers with smaller city franchises. That's how'd I'd do it.

Overall I think Chivas USA though was the only real blunder of the planning for MLS here. I don't, personally, think NY needs another team though. Not until other markets are handled.

I have no affiliation with St Louis and I know that AC St Louis was a major financial flop but I would still like to see St Louis have a team due to its historic place in US soccer history.

The NYC market isn't handled right now.

New York Red Bulls made the mistake of placing that stadium in the wrong area. The demographic surrounding it just isnt interested. Its mostly brazilian and ecuadorian (snobs and broke folks). My brazilian friends constantly talk trash about MLS.

The fix for New York really depends on the entire league getting better players to attract the fans. Even if NY gets KAKA, the fans might pile in at first but they wont keep supporting the team constantly because of opponents like: chivas usa, colorado, fc dallas, chicago, ne revs, dynamo, toronto fc.

Another problem I heard is the red bulls name and the new york affiliation.

New Jersey Metrostars please.......

Chivas USA is a disgrace. A racist, piece of spit club. They should be kicked out of the league. And then replaced.
