early line on 13/14 is...

RB. in 3 preseason games - 2 starts at RB, came off bench to play RB in other app.

as of now, looks like cameron will serve as the ultimate swiss army knife in JKs back pocket. hard to see him winning a starting role for USMNT playing RB for stoke

cameron is officially spector 2.0. and like spector i think ultimately his best spot is as a CM/DM

At worst he moves past Parkhurst and Evans in the break in case of glass emergency if Chandler and Dolo arent ready

Accidentally looked back at a few posts from a few months ago and a bunch of you twits didn't even have Goodson in your list of CBs. After this Gold Cup he makes the 23 right now. I'll really be on the edge of my seat waiting for your next predictions.

and the cameron conundrum continues...

what is the best role for this guy?

CB?
- 90 min v bosnia but i dont think there is a spot for him there once you add besler, goodson and gonzo back into the mix. has been my position all along that CB is the one position that you do not want someone playing who does not play there on regular basis

CM?
- lets face facts, bradley / jones is the CM pair for now. not to mention that GC has not been a regular CM at club level for years now. could be useful off the bench as a CDM to preserve a lead, at least until edu returns

RB?
- into his second season now as an RB for stoke. my sense is that he is really starting to get the hang of it.

with brad evans the incumbent RB i would vote to give cameron another shot at RB...

...start cameron at RB v costa rica

I will want to see him there as well too... Honestly its a bit of a blessing that he is getting so much time there, seeing as Brad is more stop-gap (though he has performed admirably) and Chandler is floundering while Lichaj is back on the come up.

CB would be nice...he's better than anyone we have at that position (we'll see about Brooks). He's not playing it for his club but it's his natural position. He hasn't forgotten it.

I don't like him as an RB. Stoke played with 4 CB's last season. He excelled in that role on the right but he isn't a fullback. And we need fullbacks, at least for the system JK is trying to implement (modern, positive soccer, where the fullbacks attack).

He looked really good at CM (though just one game). He might be our only natural #6...we should test him more there.

cameron has 7 starts at CB for US since last october. obviously does not play there for stoke

consensus is that he has been poor in 6 of the 7 - recognized as one of worst US players in each game

ill concede that you can probably find an opposing take here and there, but i really dont see how cameron is getting so much support as a CB option, let alone starter, when we have goodson, gonzo, brooks and besler.

v A&B, oct. 2012
(SI) D, Geoff Cameron, 4.5 - Cameron's momentum as a sure-footed defender slowed a bit after he let Peter Byers get by him on the end line prior to the cross that set up Blackstock's goal. On a night when Antigua threatened so infrequently, the major blunders tend to stick out more, and ultimately that was the case with Cameron, who was also fortunate that Antigua and Barbuda took its time on a late counterattack with the score still tied, as he was caught forward and lumbered back to ultimately make a saving interception on a pass to his mark that came about five seconds too late.

v guatamala, oct 2012
(espn) D Geoff Cameron, 4.5 - His aforementioned lack of cohesion with Bocanegra was evident early on, and lost more aerial duels than he normally does, but settled down a bit more as the game went on.

@ russia, nov 2012
(NYT)Geoff Cameron
Giveaway in own end minutes after Russia scored that nearly led to a second... Part of a pretty shaky defense that provided Russia with too many good chances. Grade: 4

@ honduras, feb. 2013
(espn) D Geoff Cameron, 4 - ... settled for the long ball too often. Made a halfhearted challenge on Garcia's goal, and appeared to let up on the winner even though he looked in position to a make a play.

@ bosnia aug. 2013
(espn) D Geoff Cameron, 4 - Similar to the friendly against Belgium last May, was slow to recover after an initial Howard save, and was cleanly beaten by Ibisivec on the second. Recovered a bit in the second half.

@ scotland
D - Geoff Cameron, 4.5: Too foul-prone and was cleanly beaten by Fletcher in buildup to a Craig Conway chance in the first half.

Half of those are inaccurate and out of date. You're showing the sites that gave him the lowest ratings because you do not like Cameron. You clearly omitted the Jamaica game that he was given very high marks in... Your biases are never well disguised Rain

i said 6 of 7. the entire defense was credited for playing well against a powerful jamaican squad (last in hex) at home

out of date? not sure what you mean.

i have never thought cameron was a good option at CB and i feel like the evidence continues to mount against him.

i guess we disagree. but obviously i am not the only one seeing consistenly sub-par performances from cameron at CB.

hope he starts at RB tomorrow!

Cameron is a good player. But he cannot play cb. He is more of a dm or rb. The 3 most probable cbs for brazil are besler gonzo, brooks. Goodson 4th.

Cam should play where he plays for a usually mid-table Premier League team. Right back! Where we also happen to need someone of his quality!! And he should be competing with Chandler.

He is great on the ball and has a tendency to come forward... And a decent shot on him.

He is wasted in the middle and has lost his instincts. Besler, Brooks, Gonzo, Goodson. That's the stable for me.

Even though Cameron plays RB for Stoke I think he'd worry me at RB for us. Not sure he has the speed to play RB well given our system. I'd like to think he's good there for stoke because they aren't very attack minded. Given the numbers we like to put forward recovery would be an issue for him. I'd give him a shot there but he wouldn't be my #1. I value speed at the fullback position big time.

If Dolo isn't healthy, Cam at right back, especially since it appears we're never going to see Chandler. Evans has been ok as a stop gap but he's going to get schooled at the WC. And Cam is so out of practice at CB that he'll be more of a liability there than an asset. Agreed, the middle is some combination of Besler, Brooks, Gonzo, and Goodson.

Well, JK is going to play Cameron where he likes him the most. Debate over.
