Rummenigge has been quoted in an ESPN article stating that UEFA and FIFA are seriously considering changing the European schedule from Fall to spring to January to autumn.

He says they are heading straight in that direction.

He also believes it could happen as soon as Qatar 2022.

He also states that it's ridiculous that European countries play during the winter he say's" that it's not logical and disagreeable to the fans and players to play in the deepest winter when it's very cold and snowing."

What do you guys think of his comments?

If this does happen, what effect will this have on awarding WC's in the future. Will only warm countries and or warm areas in countires/continents be in contention for it in the future?

It seems Blatters comments about MLS needing to change to a fall/spring schedule doesn't really hold much weight.

You think this has anything to do with Qatar 2022?

Share your thoughts.

It t makes sense. 99% of the euro leagues play in areas that wont have to worry about high temps during the summer. Also while snow could hamper with some potential locations it would potentially be easier on the players to play WC's in cooler weather.

If this does happen though i hope MLS has reached a top 20 level. Because the this could be a nightmear in terms of tv ratings having to compete with eutope.

I don't know how serious they are about it but it would be easier to have a long break to get all the international matches in. There is a large contingent of people namely on the South American continent who probably wouldn't be too fond of the idea though..

"It should have been done by now."

I have no strong feelings about this other than starting the season in January under the argument of weather conditions is ridiculous. If it's truly about weather then they should do a March to November season.

It certainly makes Blatter's comments about the MLS not adopting the FIFA calendar even more laughable. But as a Bayern fan, I can tell you that Rummenigge is just stirring the pot.
