I think Uruguay is the team to beat down there right now. Chile making a strong case too - the Chile-Uruguay matchup (if it happens) could be a real cracker.
Haven't tuned into the last few matches with the US, just scorelines, so it will be interesting for me to see how we match up against our own foes. Hopefully well.

Getting really interesting for the U20 team. Walker Zimerman is injured and may not be ready for qualifying. That makes the problem of John Anthony Brooks (won't be released) and the career threatening injury to Will Packwood so much worse. Sean Cunningham's hip injury last year killed his chances for the U20 team.
Without Brooks, Packwood, Zimmerman, and Cunningham, the team will be without its top four central defenders.
So what does this team do about central defense? Team captain Caleb Stanko is a better midfielder but will probably have to shift to the backline.

Lets hope our strike force makes up for our lack of defense

Who do you think will be the starting CB's for qualifying? Stanko and one of Oneill, Okwuono, Torre

I don't know if Cunningham was ever considered one of the top 4 CB's. My guess you will see either a O'Neil and Torre pairing or a O'Neil and Okwuono pairing. Thats of course if Zimmerman isn't good to go. Stanko may shift to the backline.
The team will have enough offense to try to outscore their opponents.
Here is my 20 man roster. For right now this will exclude Zimmerman. If Zimmerman is healthy then he replaces Ambrose while Stanko gets moved back to the midfield.
Salgado is still injured or just not in Ramos' plans.
I think the U-20's will be just fine.
If Pelosi isn't released then look for Guido to take his place.
But what I am looking forward to talent and depth wise is the 2015 Sub U-20's. That cycle is going to be stacked at every position.

So Paraguay is beating Bolivia 2 to 0 right now about 15 minutes into the second half and if this result holds Argentina would not move on to the next round of the South American Championships.

Wow Argentina doesn't even make it to the fianl group stage. Argentina will not be at the U-20 WC this year. Brasil may not make it either.
I think there is a chance for the U.S. to make a lot of noise at the U-20 WC if they qualify. Right now you would have to say a European team will be the favorite probably Spain to win it.

Paraguay up 5-1 now..... Argentina is done.. And Brazil is in trouble of being eliminated also.. I believe USA could finish in the top 4 of the world cup... Mexico is gonna be very dangerous don't be shocked if they win the sub 20 wc.. They won the 2011 sub 17wc and made it to the semis the past wc, and 7 of the 11 players that won third place are eligible to play this wc.. plus they just won gold at the Olympics. wouldn't be shocked if their favorites to win the tournament.. But hopefully usa prevails and take it.. but 2015 should be our year for sure... We can finally win our first fifa tournament ever.. At least something we can brag about to mexico, since they have 2 sub 17s, 1 confederations cup..,, and a gold medal also..

All I care about is the senior level. Youth teams are for preparing the future USMNT senior player. Most youth players never make it to the senior National team for any country.

@ 2tone I care about the senior level also more than anything...... But we havent done much at the senior level.... At least if we can win something at the youth level it will be a huge step for ussoccer... we have nothing to show for.. And a gold cup doesn't really matter unless is to qualify for the confederations cup... All im saying is that the us hopefully wins something meaningful so we have something to show for worldwide.. Winning the world cup is the ultimate prize!!! I predict the day the usa wins a world cup the sport of soccer will take over nfl, nba, mlb... The popularity will grow massively specially in the new generations........

I agree it would be nice to see one of our youth teams win a youth WC or gain an Olympic medal though. The closest we have got is the 1999 u-17 team which finished 4th, the 2000 Olympic team which finished 4th. I think the U-20's made it to the quaterfinals a few times in the mid 2000's as well.

Anyone know what happened to fabian hurzeler ? hes about to be 20, and haven't heard much of him.. Also Shawn parker hes eligible and might be more interested in the USA now that Germany dint qualify.. I think green, preffer should get a look also even though their elgible for the next one.. As i recall adu played like in 4 sub 20 wcs or something.. They should do the same with some of the 16, 17, 18 yr olds that are very good or the top ones... Hopefully ramos calls in pelosi, vijeb, kisewetter, brooks for qualifying..
