I'm interested in the coaching hierarchy of former soccer players. My high school coach played in the NASL and had one cap with the National Team. I was dicking around on this NASL website looking at rosters for "The Best Team Ever?" in the LA Galaxy thread, and came across my coach's profile on the site.

Desmond Armstrong coached at my club when I was about... U-12 to U-16, I think, but he had the team that was one year above mine so I never had any personal experience with him.

My first club coach at the U-11 level came up through Tottenham and England's youth system as a player but he never cracked the first team. His name doesn't bear mentioning because he was awful. Just an example of American soccer directors trying to have the prestige of a foreign coach with playing experience without actually vetting him to find out if they have any coaching ability.

Did anyone else have any former pros as coaches?

My coach U12-U17 played a little while for the Irish National team in the 70s. Outside of that...a bunch played college ball like me.

Yeah, all my club coaches played D-II college. I don't think any of them played D-I, though a couple coached in D-I.

I believe all my coaches played D-1 as well as I.

I played under Bob Spielmann the past few years for club and we often had Bob Gansler the former national team coach and player come and run training sessions. He's the technical adviser at the club.

my U12 coach played for the Saudi national team but died in a car accident in my second season with him. The guy that runs most of the club stuff now in my hometown played for Blackpool and was on the committee that helped bring the WC here in '94. I played some tournaments with him (when I was in my 20's) and even in his 50's he was the best back to goal forward I've played with.

This is my college coach http://www.ssacsports.com/article/1543.php Peter Fuller. He is no longer with the Revolution though. However our his assistant at my college, Remi Roy, is is the keeper coach for the Revs. He was also the keeper coach for the Puerto Rico National Team in its preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
