- vienna took care of the croatian champs zagreb to become 1st austrian team in 8 years (so i read) to qualify for UCL group stage

This proves how the league isnt that good. It took 8 years for a team from the league to qualify for UCL group stage, which is the level where the real teams start trying their hardest.

sure, if you are comparing it to leagues that get teams in UCL every year - it isnt THAT good

there are 18 leagues represented in UCL, austria being one of them.

i dont see any championship squads in there

what was your point? boyd should move to watford this transfer window because austria has a team in UCL for first time in a while? #randomlogic

just wanted to follow up on this now that european qualifying is complete

each country (austria, sweden, norway) had 5 teams enter into qualifying rounds. 4 of 15 have reached the group stages. 3 of the 4 are from austria

- vienna took care of the croatian champs zagreb to become 1st austrian team in 8 years (so i read) to qualify for UCL group stage

- salzburg demolished their playoff opponent 7-nil to ease into europa campaign

- rapid was nearly as impressive (without boyd) winning on aggrgate 4-0

- elfborg (sweden) squeaked by nordsjaelland 2-1 to give sweden/norway 1 representative in europe proper

austrian bundesliga has as many european participants as ererdivisie
maybe the decline of the austrian league is overblown

again, for me boyd playing europa and 2 games each with vienna and salzburg (and graz) before the winter break is every bit as good as spending the fall with watford.

see if you cant up your stock in europa this fall and make a strong winter move. if i were rep'ing boyd, that would be my advice. the championship will be there in the winter or next summer if that is as good as you can get

UPDATE

apparently besiktas, after beating tromso (norway) in play-off, have been excused from the competition for some past indiscretion - meaning tromso has been gifted a spot in the group stage.

so norway now has 1 participant in europe. congratulations norway!

Wait what? He has 3 goals for the 5th placed team in the AUSTRIAN LEAGUE. Jozy scored 31 in all competitions last season for a team in the Eredivisie (way more quality league than the Austrian Bundesliga) and he transferred to the powerhouses of the premier league, Sunderland...

Boyd will not have teams lining up for him. Unless he goes on a tear and scores 25+ this season, he will not have teams lining up for his services. Sorry to disappoint.

actually has 4 goals including 1 in europa league.

maybe you have not checked a calender recently. its september 1. season just started

last season he had a couple buckets full - like 20, give or take a couple

i think boyd will get transferred to a better league than the championship.

i am disappointed, but only because i feel like i am communicating with a jacka$$ (but i could be wrong, sorry if i am)

Boyd is very underrated I think he is one of our top 3 fwds.. Is just that he never really gets an opportunity. I wanna see him start and go 90mins if jozy, Eddie isnt healthy enough.. Aron dint start today also...

Quite the contrary, Boyd is a highly overrated player. People still look at him through Dortmund goggles. He has proven himself to be a very average player. His level and I would predict his final level will be the MLS (and leagues of similar quality).

Don't forget there was a time when Manchester United thought Jon Spector would be a first team player (and was capped thrice!). And Jon Spector is now not even good enough for the USMNT.

I wouldnt say boyd is overrated I would just say he still is developing as a player. He is not a finished product. I will say that by the end of his development he could be a pretty good striker. Remember he is only 22 he still has many years ahead of him. If he keeps playing like he is averaging almost a goal a game he could make the jump to a better league.

Oh, my bad. 5 goals total. Lets start him for the Costa Rica qualifier.

HE'S OVERRATED. GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE.

I'll take Agudelo everyday of the week. He could turn out a good striker but not the type we need to be playing the system we want. He is a Brusier/Hustle type not that I have problem with those players but those types can only take us so far on the international stage.

Aron is probably more overrated than boyd... Boyd would do good with Dortmund,, too bad dowski, gundagen, ext are huge fwds ahead.. I like Aron a lot but boyd is up there also, I think he might have better stats..

First off Gundogan isn't a forward. He's actually a deep lying midfielder. Second of all Boyd's a good young forward but is he good enough for Dortmund? No I don't think so. He's a good young forward but has to improve with game management and combining with teammates. I don't think he's overrated or underrated. He's probably right about where he should be in our striker corps. Quality potential forward but not quite the finished product.
