I don't know what kind of team they have at Watford this season. I remember last year their owner who also owns Udinese sent a ton of guys on loan from Serie A who weren't getting any burn. At one point they had something like 14 Serie A players on the team. It almost worked too. The FA passed a bunch of rules closing the loopholes which allowed them to get so many guys on loan, but the Pozzo family just outright transferred a good 7 or 8 players from that group back to Watford this summer and another player from their other club Granada.

That being said, Gianfranco Zola is one of my favorite managers and while Boyd would have competition for a starting place in the Championship, he's gonna have to take this step in his development sometime between now and the next year or so assuming he continues to do well in Austria.

All I know is that Boyd needs to be playing in a better league.

Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing him come to MLS. Because quite frankly, MLS is a better league than the Austrian Bundesliga.

Yes I agree 2tone we are getting to the point where MLS should be the obvious choice instead of Scandinavian clubs.

Austria + europa league is not a bad spot for a 22 y/o american. people seem to be confusing austria with weak scandinavian leagues like norway and sweden and this is just not an accurate comparison. austria and MLS are roughly equivalent and when you add EL I would argue that is a richer soccer experience/education than MLS.

boyd is on pace to make to take the next step between now and next summer - there is really no dilemma. watford would be a lateral move. not sure why people think that a league full of teams worse than the worst teams in EPL is a good place to be for a guy like boyd.

a strong fall in austria and europa league is probably the best way to maximize his value for a winter transfer - and an upgrade to dutch league or better - maybe back to germany, or EPL

I actually think the Austrian Bundesliga is significantly worse than Norway or Sweden.

It's funny I looked up a Watford forum because I like to see what the fans of teams think about our players. The first comment regarding Boyd:

"he's a yank so he can only play soccer - for that reason it's a no.

watford need footballers, good footballers..."

Ridiculous especially since Boyd is from germany lol

Watford is an upgrade the Austrian league is awful. Also Watford are contenders for promotion. But with that being said; I am not a fan of the English leagues anyways. Americans get more respect on the continent versus England. English fans are stuck in the stone ages about American players.

Haha Yea woops when i wrote that I had Mix and Gatt in my mind for some strange reason. Scandinavian and Autrian League are just about the level below MLS. Yes that makes a bit more sense.

Idk how I feel about him moving to Watford. They were almost promoted but thats never a given. Plus Europa League PT is nothing to look down at. The Austrian Bundesliga isprob a downgrade from the Championship but you'll prob never see Watford qualify for the Europa League. Tough decision.

But if you say just Because they have Europa League then its like the Comparison of Scottish Football. Like playing for Celtic is great because Champion League every Year but the rest of the League isnt Competitive. Unlike MLS you really cant put your money on who will win. Really weird way of looking and comparing leagues

lol this is kind of rich considering its coming from englishmen. Who in the last world cup finished second in the group stage with the united states finishing first in the group. I will never forget the english newspaper cover that said England Algeria Slovenia Yanks EASY and then they struggled to even get out of the group and then got the floor wiped by germany. The same germany were boyd spent all of his development period. It seems watford fans fail to do even the most basic research about players. Lol also didnt england come up with the term soccer. I have to say that conversation on the forum above is filled with unbelievable contradictions. Anyways hopefully boyd can prove them wrong also I think they have forgotten about a guy by the name of Jay Demerit the same jay demerit whos winning goal got them promoted to the premier league last time around.

The Europa League qualifying is 95% minnows and 5% bitter clubs from decent leagues. In the group stages it improves but the tournament only gains traction in the knockouts. For people to put any kind of stock in the experience gained from Europa qualifying is a huge exaggeration
