I suppose because he was lively and stuck out in a poor side.

Just checked, he didn't start, my bad...but he had a good game.

He started the Scotland game right before that.

this is a case where i would give every opportunity to the 'next generation' - agudelo and boyd (and of course AJ) - guys who who are just entering their peak years

EJ is very similar to kyle beckerman in that i think he has now moved passed his peak years. for EJ id say 23-28 were his prime years. now, going on 30, and given that i dont really think he is a great 'locker room' guy, id give those other guys plenty of chances.

and not because they are young but because they are young AND because they are playing really well.

ME-J with 11 goals for seattle - ultimately not a great season and likely an indication that he is indeed in decline.

yes, has scored some big goals for US. so will other guys if you give them a chance

With Dempsey & Donovan able to play as withdrawn strikers I think Boyd & EJ are fighting for the last forward spot to Brazil. Both are big bodied players who can fill in for Jozy. Will likely come down to the last couple weeks...and who is the healthiest.

Ajax 0 - 3 Salzburg

Salzburg is absolutely destroying the austrian league this season, but still a testament to the soccer being played in that league... its not that bad. you wont see a team from, say, norway, waltz into amsterdam and take apart the everdivisie leaders like that

and spare me the line about how ajax just does not care about the europa league

Salzburg is a big fish fish in a small pond, pretty similar to Celtic in the Scottish premiere league.

Not saying they don't try but teams from the one team leagues (Norway, Scotland, Serbia, Austria, Czech rep, etc) care way more about Europa league then teams from the big 6 leagues. Ajax can't drop points or they may not make UCL next year. Salzburg can bring their b team to this weekends game and still have a good chance to beat some crap team or even if they drop points it's no big deal

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
