Even though Hannover lost big today and Ribbery had a huge game Cherendolo can't be faulted for it (imo). He handled Ribbery well on his side, even with zero help from his midfield partner. Ribbery had to come inside a lot to be successful, which meant Mandzukic slid to left wing and Stevie marked him out of the game.

All that to say Stevie still has it. Ribbery is top 3 left wings in the world right now. I would take him every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Christina Ronaldo.

Personally I would take Jermaine Jones over Ronaldo... but seriously, Cherundolo is the best right back to ever put on the usmnt jersey. Hes still got it. No doubt.

Even if Chandler decides to put on the US kit in the Hex, I still want to see Dolo at RB. He is still hands down a better 1v1 defender and has a better understanding of the defensive tactics. Sure, Chandler gets forward better but we have given up too many goals during the qualifying matches so I would rather have the pure defender.

Thats what Ribbery does though. He is naturally right footed which means he prefers to cut inside. Ribery is more of a LAM not a winger. You actually want to show Ribery outside not inside because he isn't going to whip in crosses with his left foot. I am sure Dolo played decent. But lets not get carried away.

oh i know all about Ribery because Bayern is my team and I watch 90% of their games. A lot of times he starts out wide and cuts over around the box or nearer the end line but today he had to start (from half field) inside. Oh and yes Ribbery does whip in pretty good crosses.

From what I read Dolo was at fault for one of the goals as well.

there was one where he could have been marking but the entire defense was lost on that one.

Cherundolo has to have a second surgery on his knee. I've thought for a while he may be done with the national team, sadly seems to be coming true.

Looking like he may be done internationally. His club career may be over as well.

Oh man, this is a giant bummer...

We're losing a leader and someone with three World Cups under his belt.

Who is going to start at RB?

Chandler isn't interested enough and might not even be a starter this year.

Cameron is not an RB. Sure for Stoke he played that position but he isn't a modern fullback, not the kind our system calls for.

Ditto for Parkhurst.

After that I guess it's Evans and Beltran...a scary thought.

I think JK will end up picking Cameron and Parkhurst but Dolo would have been so much better, footballistically and in terms of the locker room.

For me Lichaj needs to be getting called up immediately.

You play Fabian at right back. I know this might sound crazy since hes great at left mid but with Johannsson making a case to start why don't you slot him at the left mid spot and move Fabian to right back, he played there capably against Mexico. Could be away to have all our best players on the field.

Johannsson Dempsey Donovan

Bradley Jones(ugh...)

Beasley Brooks Besler F. Johnson

Second this - if anything, it lights a fire under Timmy to get his loyalty straightened out. Not necessarily wanting him on the field all the time, but it'd be nice to have him from a depth perspective.

Always been a fan of Lichaj - I think he got a bad wrap from the '11 GC for reasons that weren't really his fault. Good to see he's back into full match fitness and getting PT - for me, he's a complete RB. Just needs to have a bit more tactical awareness and not get caught out of position so much. His runs up field as well as his crosses are pretty damaging - something we're not seeing as much from Evans or Parkhurst.

I really hope to be proven wrong but I don't really rate Lichaj. He isn't good enough going forward and he isn't a good enough defender. He was part of one of the worst defenses the Premiership has ever seen and in the Villa games I watched last season (not many) he was at fault for a few of them for being caught out of position.

I really don't want to see Fabian Johnson at LB...that would mean we'd have to start Beasley. He will get absolutely destroyed against wingers outside of CONCACAF. He isn't a defender. All he has is pace and he is losing that as we speak. Against CONCACAF wingers he can use that to make up for his poor defending but against quality opposition we'll get destroyed on that side.

I am really hoping Lichaj puts in good showings this year or Chandler gets his head out of his ass. Maybe Jermaine Jones can give him a talking to.

Some people need to jump off the Lichaj bandwagon. It isn't happening and there is a reason for it. And it's the same reason he's in the Championship instead of the EPL and the same reason he wasn't even on the Gold Cup squad. He just isn't that good.
