Any of our stable of USMNT center backs to Liverpool... Any of them would be better than Rhys Williams!

Tesserman loaned to Liverpool (wishful thinking) or Juvenutus
Ricardo Pepi to Wolves
Dike to Norwich
Araujo to Newcastle
Kaden Clark moved earlier to Leipzig
Duncan to Salzburg
Mueller to Werder

I don't think the Olympics will happen this year so want to see the younger players continue to play. But if the lockout does happen that hurts the MLS based player contingent. Could very well mean, Bjelks get his wish and gets Green in the March camp. Definitely for Green over Roldan for a roster spot.

Jordan Morris looks like a genius now, wonder if he had an idea the stoppage might be coming.

.

I wouldn't want Araujo to go to Newcastle....Yedlin another of our RBs is already there and can't get field time, so is moving to Turkey.
Tesserman isn't Liverpool/Juve level, so would set my sights a little more modestly.

Werder is a crap team so they could use all the help they can get. If we're moving players to locations they'll have a shot of getting minutes than I'd suggest a couple guys go there to help Sargent and get a higher level of competition.

Werder-America anyone...

Uli to Werder
Mueller to Werder
Araujo to Werder
Tesserman to Werder

Other option would be for them to go to Schalke as they need all the help they can get too.

Anytime there's a loan it's for two reasons: to put said player in the "shop window" to increase that players value and visibility- or to let the player gain experience so they will be game ready for their parent club when the time comes. Basically the MLS guys I'd like to see loaned out are a very small group- those who are ready to perform and potentially take advantage of the move like Morris is trying to do. The guys on that list for me would be Long, Zimmerman, Arriola, Zardes, Mueller, Perea, Yueill, Acosta, Lletget... the "senior" squad of domestic guys. I think they need to keep playing and trying to up their level. I think the younger guys going on loan would be just to play reserve soccer for the most part like work experience.

Regarding Newcastle, they are looking more for an attacking RB so I think he would better fit Newcastle's manager style of play.

With Tesserman and Liverpool, yeah, it is a reach and I well know it but be nice to see one of ours play for Klopp.

I don't want many players going to Wermer because their manager doesn't appear to be any good.

I would also like to see Long re-unite with Marsch at Salzburg. Marsch gave the biggest boost to Long and made him more consistent.

Even if it is to train while there is a lockout, there is benefit to a younger player being introduced to a new playing culture and new ideas so they can incorporate them into their games.

I am surprised Marsch isn't actively looking for one or two MLS loans...unless he is and it is not being widely reported

I love this.

None of this is at you, samtom, just rambling here.

What's hilarious is that all of our internet armchair analysts, who have spent countless hours studying film and checking statistics on players, have been able to conclude that Long is total garbage and that we've got better guys playing in the lower divisions of Europe. Meanwhile, this is now the second transfer window where there have been rumors of Premier League teams trying to get him. Remember, bids came in for him previously from Premier League clubs and RBNY turned them down because they got low balled on the transfer fee

It would be wild if this actually happened, but there have been a number of credible sources who have reported on this, so where there is smoke there has to be at least a little fire. If not Liverpool, I could see another lower to mid table Premier League club trying to do the same.

Long and Zimmerman both are much better than most of y'all on this site give credit. I wouldn't be surprised if most people kept quiet on this topic, or if the loan actually happens, magically consider Long as one of our top CBs.

My God I hope this happens.

Circumstances. Liverpool are as desperate for cover at center back as Chelsea was when they signed Miazga. The youngsters they have are not ready to step up and they need cover that can qualify for a work permit. If they had not lost so much revenue because of the pandemic I am sure they would have bought suitable replacements already.

I am happy for Long if this does come to fruition and yes, he certainly should be in the mix as a starter for his past matches with the USMNT. Even if he only gets to train with Liverpools first team, he will be introduced to a broader soccer education because of it. I believe this is why most of us don't rate him higher...he has had a limited experience in one league and one culture. The more varied the experience he has the better he will be.

Same could be said for Julian Green.

You've selected the wrong player to use as an example. Julian Green has played for 3 different clubs (BM, Stuttgard, Firth) across 2 different leagues (B1 & B2).
Long has played for a single club (reserves & 1st team)....so he's only been exposed to one culture in his professional career.
-
If Long does happen to move to an EPL Team...good for him. He's a decent player (when in form) and potentially could contribute to a mid-table club somewhere.
However, at 28 and with his consistency issues, don't believe he's a worthy inked in starter for the USMNT.
Unfortunately Gregg has only really auditioned 5 CBs (Brooks, Long, Ream, Zimmerman, Miazga)...he's given token call-ups to M. Robinson, McKenzie, & Richards...but has not given them much in the way of opportunities to prove themselves. Gregg appears to be reluctant to give young CBs a chance
