Playing an open game we are trusting a lot to the CB position, potentially our weakest one the field....

Who are your guys and why????

These friendlies were a plus for Brooks, I thought a negative for Miazga, even for Ream and not enough time for Richards.

My guys are yet to be determined. The two I would like to see most are EPB and McKinzie. I can pass on Miagza now, as well as, Ream. I think EPB is better passing but Mckinze would be better defensively. More physical.

Ream wasn't bad but he is limited, even more so in two years when he will be 35. If the tournament was this year, I'd go with him. But it isn't.

I think JAB and Miazga can be fine. Maybe not the best performance for Miazga, but we've seen him perform at a decent level, and he's just getting back into regular PT with Anderlecht.

That said, we should have seen more from Richards, and Ream shouldn't have been on the roster.

The clear and obvious answers are EPB, Crich and CCV

Obvious to say that, but I don't think any of those guys is going to significantly improve our squad. I'm a fan of EPB and I want him to have the next chance. But at the same time, CCV hasn't exactly shown he can pass the ball. EPB hasn't really defended anyone with any pedigree yet at his club level so he's just unproven. And Richards, he hasn't played much beyond 3.liga. A few spot starts for Bayern isn't cutting it yet. So we are in the same place, that there isn't a partnership yet for Brooks- and he's not the healthiest guy. I'm all for those three guys being called in to play, someone needs to show some promise out there.

I would disagree

CCV had good passing numbers at Luton

EPB plays against Rapid, LSAK, and Salzburg, better competition than Long sees and he's a better athlete and better passer

A few spot starts for the best team in the world isn't cutting it for USMNT, Ream has had lots of Starts for Fulham and none of them have made him any quicker or faster

I like Miazga but he's a step slow

Long isn't going to help the team anymore than CCV, Ream or Miazga. It's a problem.

If CCV can't get out of the championship he just isn't going to be good enough. I still think he should get an opportunity as Brooks partner just to see how it looks. But it's a long shot at best.

I prefer Richards to Ream just to be clear but he is very green at the one spot you need to be precise. I voted Richards as Brooks partner so I'm not disagreeing but that backline isn't winning anything the way things currently stand. Both have to up their games considerably.

I'm an EPB fan you don't have to convince me he needs a shot but he isn't playing good competition weekly. Marsch says it's a lower standard than MLS for reference.

Lol you gotta send me that quote bcuz Salzburg, LASK and Rapid would run through mls and that's a 1/4 of the teams

Even EPB's team is at a value that can get to an mls cup final

So you think adding EPB (which I am in favor of) drastically changes things for us?

I think EPB is a better athlete, defender and passer than Long, Ream and Miazga

EPB had an offer with PSV but he turned it down bc he wanted 4 yrs instead of 2

Honestly he tackles better in transition than Brooks

Well, it seems the December camp is confirmed. I just hope the MLS centre back that is seen is McKenzie.

Miazga may not be the greatest defender, but he plays well & has the physical side of the game often needed by a CB. Plays w/ a chip on his shoulder.
Last year while on loan, CCV was often putting up pass completion #'s in the 80% range. Really stands out since he was on a bad team.
While EPB's league isn't exactly the best, he's still performing well within his club.
Richards maybe green, but he provides that versatility that could be a major asset in tournament play.
Alvarado is a 2 footed CB who can play anywhere across the backline, has experience, and decent speed.
McKenzie & M. Robinson are probably the top young CBs in MLS.

All these players are better options for this Team than Ream. All are playing consistently (except CCV & Ream). All are currently under 30 yrs old. All are more athletic than Ream.
i don't really care which 3 are chosen (although I favor getting Richards experience), as Long as I don't have to see Ream or Long anymore.

I don't understand the hate for Ream a backup left footer. He's still in the Fulham squad helping them to promotion. He is absolutely not Premier League quality but as a vet backup Championship CB isn't the worst option. I don't think his spot Is guaranteed but he's also not a throwaway

John Brooks gets hurt and we're screwed. His ceiling combined with the all out midfield and our wingers really will help us in qualifying.

Brooks-Miazga has never looked like a solid partnership. It's been tried before. I like Matt but not aside Brooks. I'd keep him over Long. Z-man, but not McKenzie.

I'm a big fan of EPB but like I said it's me being a fan that says he will do great, his pedigree says maybe.

CCV May have had a good percentage but I've never seen him make any pass that is Brooks like or even Ream like.

My top 4: Brooks, McKenzie, EPB, Richards.
Next: Ream, Miazga

Outside of JAB, we do not have a "complete" defender. By complete I mean athletic, physical, tactical.

Passing statistics can be deceiving. Is he passing sideways, back to his keeper, or forward to a teammate? They do not tell the complete picture.

I don't think we necessarily need to have a set starter for each position, but we do need to recognize each players strengths and weaknesses and set the starting lineup based on the opponent.

For example, against Panama Miazga and Ream may have been the two worst players to choose to start in the middle given the athleticism and speed of the Panamanians.
