So its Berhalter's fault that Reyna played poorly and got dispossessed a number of times against a Welsh B team.. against guys he should have run circles around.

Of course, makes total sense. Its always Berhalter's fault.

The attacking third was a congested mess because of playing Lletget as a false 9. Play Reyna there and it's a totally different story.

Well Ream is starting and captaining the side

Steffen
Cannon
Miazga
Ream (Captain)
Dest
Adams
McKennie
Musah
Llanez
Reyna
Gioacchini

I would have liked to see Horvath in this game. And starting Ream doesn't make sense. Give the arm band to Adams, and put in Richards.

A real lineup. More days of practice. I think Uly and Nico are upgrades, ream downgrade, Cannon for Robinson a wash. Worse opponent. Should be a big win or at least a very competent and creative performance. Expect no less when Gregg said that himself this week.

The attacking third was a congested mess because we controlled the game and kept Wales in their half for most of it. They simply sat back, packed their guys around the area, and didn't leave much space for us to operate.

This is in no way a defense of Lletget playing as a false 9, but here me out on this...

We don't have a forward. Sargent hasn't made the position his, Zardes has been our highest scoring guy for a few years now, and Jozy is realistically still our best but he can't stay healthy and is an unreliable injury prone mess...

If you want to try something out, you have to try it out. Friendlies are the best place to do that... especially against an opponent you won't need to see again.

If we ran out that same formation with a near identical lineup, there is one person in particular who I can think of who may actually slot in well to that false 9... Pulisic.

It makes complete and total sense. Its just unfortunate that Pulisic is hurt. Had he run out that same lineup, but swapped Pulisic with Lletget... none of you guys would be complaining about it.

Richards isn't competing against Ream for a LCB... it would be Miazga for the RCB spot.

Brooks is firmly in the LCB spot. But again, given scheduling congestion for this upcoming summer, I can see why Berhalter continues to maintain Ream as a LCB option.

Well @lilGreg both my wife and I have covid so I check in when I feel like it, I find you to be annoying and pompous therefore I do not feel I need to go back and forth with you-I stopped reading where you basically said Reyna didnt play well and greg had nothing to do with that.

Reyna like to pinch in, only prob GB flew in a MLS midfielder to play a false 9-a position the guy has never played before-so it crowded space. The good news is you are literally the only one who doesnt understand this--Everyone minus you and GB scratched their heads at the false 9 no striker and who he had play it.

But maybe you should call GB and have Reyna benched and we can slide morris into is spot
Read my prior response to cudevil in regards to the false 9 concept.

Glad that you're now openly admitting that your issue is with me and not what I'm saying. As I always say, with you (and Know Nothing) its the messenger and not the message.

He called in guys that can play the 9, even if they aren't the highest/best options at the moment.

If GB wanted to play a false 9, it never should have been Lletget. That isn't close to his position and he had no instincts for it. Reyna plays a bit more of a withdrawn CAM for Dortmund on a regular basis, and he would have been a far better fit for the spot.

Although preferred, the LCB doesn't need to be left footed. Someone competent with both feet could play there. I'd take a chance with Richards.

Ream might be in the mix still, but there is absolutely no mystery about him.

I don't disagree.

I would have preferred to start Brooks and swap out Miazga for Richards. But I get that Brooks has a tendency to get hurt, we know what hes got, and we can give him a rest and pat on the back.

I also would have liked to swap Reyna to CM and Musah to RW. Not critical, but I would like to see Reyna in the middle because we still don't know if Musah is committed and he may do well there for us.

This would have been a prime opportunity to give Horvath a run as well...

Better fit for that role in one game, or long term? If we stick with Reyna on the wing, his time is better served on the wing. Its a friendly, you need to get guys the time and opportunities to play in the positions they're going to play to get an understanding of their role and the players around them.

If 9 of the 10 outfield players are good to go, you only have to make 1 change... instead of shifting guys around to a position where they haven't been getting the time.

Again, I'm not arguing for the inclusion of Lletget, just offering a rationale as to why it kinda made some sense to try it out.

Gonna ignore that he teed up Llanez for what should have been a goal?

And I'm not going to get on a defender for letting a cross in from that distance. Miazga and Ream were terrible on that play.
