I feel you have to look at this topic from a right now perspective when it comes to the forwards. While it is possibly the weakest area on the field, maybe Left back being a close second, there are some points I'd like to show.

This really comes down to only a couple of players currently that are able to really help in the striking area this qualification. I would have to say the best option is a healthy Jozy Atlidore. His hold up play and physical strength can compliment the speedy forwards in helping run off the ball. If you remember the gold cup game against Mexico, it was a way different game when he was on the pitch as Mexico had to be aware of his hold up play, allowing a more potent attack.

Zardes had his chances. He seems to be like Wil Trapp. A really great MLS player, but not a good international player. He is dyamic, but his lack of finishing in front of goal is something you can not afford against Mexico or other big boys of the world.

The Red Baron, aka Sargent, just needs more time. Hopefully his peak hits at world cup time, but right now he is a third option. The rest are just many players with one main different skill set, or can feature in other positions.

I am a big Ferreria fan now that he is a US national. He's only 19, but may need a move away to a bigger club elsewhere to really grow.

Can we get Jonathon David to do a one time switch from Canada?

Do you really expect anyone with a logical brain to take you seriously saying a proven Bundesliga player is 3rd option to someone who hasn't played top tier football in 5 yrs and someone who's never even played 2nd tier football lol?

Saying a bunch of words doesn't make you sound any smarter, saying things that are rational do lol.

Your number 1 option was useless in qualifying 3 yr ago, now he's older and lazier and you want us to give him the spot bc of your mls fanboying. I'll pass lol.

How can Sargent not be ready when he's been at a clear level than the 2 bums you mentioned for the 2 past 2 yrs? Do you even think about what you say before you say it lol?

Njace007, not sure I have ever seen you post before. Welcome to the forum. What you got here was a typical bjelks response. Sorry you got such a Troll response on one of your first post, it's pretty disrespectful.
bjelks hates MLS for some reason, not sure he like our country much either. While most professionals consider MLS a tier 2 league he says it's a tier 3 or 4 league. If you say anything about an MLS guy starting you get called a fanboy. If you argue with him you get called a racist. It's best just to ignore his post and move on.

Now, on to your post. I think it is time to move past Josy. He is so injury proned, misses a lot of sitters, and is pretty lazy. I think we have plenty of guys that can hold the ball up. Zardes and Sargent both can pretty well. Sargent gets knocked off the ball a lot more than Zardes. Sargent is more technical with better touch than Zardes. Sargent also plays in a Tier 1 league. I think Sargent should be our #1 right now but I am pretty sure GB has Zardes as #1. I am hoping we have better options by the time qualifying rolls around.

Right now I have Jozy as number 3.

Sargent
Johansson
Altidore
Zardes
Morris
Ebobissie
Ferreira

People will call me crazy putting ArJo that high. And that's fine, but his talent is starter quality for the USMNT. If he can stay healthy he is a perfect person to take Sargent under his wing.

I don't think it's crazy if you're rating their abilities....

I'm putting Johansson along with Jozy in that they have so much experience they are able to be sort of put in wherever and they'll be ready to go. At the same time, building a team around them to me is a mistake. They are there anytime to score goals and win a game but they shouldn't play too much. He's not a forward but Fabian Johnson is in that same category.

You need to add Mueller as well. I think Akinola won't play much because of Jozy's contract to some degree.

Akinola started yesterday over Jozy. I think both will see starting minutes.

So the coach of Bremen said that he considers Sargent a starter this year so I really hope he has a breakout year. Zardes with another brace this weekend. I think he trails only Diego Rossi for the most goals in MLS. Muller and Morris still in the top 5 too. Josy didn't look great in the one game I saw him play in. Probably still not match fit yet. Hope he can find his form too.

I saw Sargetns coach quote-seems like he his rating him more and more. I hope he can get more service this year and get a couple more goals, I think we have a couple guys who can play wide or up top --but would like to see Sargent develop a swagger and put some more goals away so we can have a go to striker....I watched Zardes play -I have to say I was impressed with his play and have always said he is a great mls club player but is just not cut out for the Nats no shame in that bc he is lighting it up in mls and good on him for that-hope he continues to do well. But praying Sargent continues to grow and locks down the spot

Yeah, I am pulling for Sergent as well, there are other strikers with potential in the pipeline but he is our immediate solution if he can step up. I think Zardes is ok for the Nats, he did score vs the Dutch for example. That being said he is not a very good forward at the National level, I think with all the talent in the pipeline that we need more from that position.

Pulling for Sargent and Pepi is my dark horse candidate but might not be ready in time.

just for fun I will say my dark horse is Hoppe

The good news for us is we have guys who can play up top or wide so it should give GB options but ideally we would have a natural striker up top ie Sargent

You have Weah, Morris, Green, Reyna, I liked the moved from J Feira as well. Hopefully Sabbi will get a look as well.

What's up with Sargent? Is he finally going to break out this year or not. I don't want him to be another hard-working forward in Europe that can't find the back of the net regularly(ala Jozy at Hull).
