Back to the subject, for me someone will have to be a back up LB out of Yedlin, Dest, and Cannon. As all seem to be the top three RB's right now. This makes sense due to the fact our LB spot has no cemented players. Appears Robinson will be no1 again after impressive season and move. But then we have MLS guys that are difficult to read, due to the ever fluctuation of talent and performance the MLS has. I'd try Cannon or Dest at LB to start off. Possibly Yedlin..if he chooses to play its his choice not going to whine and judge him for it..and if he plays for Newcastle..I'd start just due to his experience and seniority in such a young group. Dest challenge Robinson for LB or Cannon. Should be interesting.

I would say Gregg has Gasper, Vines, Gutman, maybe now Bello as his LB depth, which all are decent. But if some how Lovitz or Sweat make the team..I'm punching a tree LOL.

Well, when my mother was young there was a small town nearby that had a Polish church and a German church. Both Roman Catholic. When the priest would rail against mixed marriages he was not complaining about black and white marriage or Catholic and Lutheran marriage. He was railing against Polish and German marriage.

My grandfather would go to another little town in the area to fight with the Irish.

A lot of people did not consider Spanish or Italian people white.

The last comment I'll make about this topic

White guilt is strong with "oldguy." Your intelligence shapes your own destiny so I could give 2 shits about walking in anyone shoes. Thats what white people don't get, Fuck your feelings. Quit trying to be "Khalessi" for the minorities. A Puerto Rican kid or a black dude from Lousisana doesn't give a shit about you or your feelings, only you do for them. They only care about themselves, money, what girl they trying to holler at and their family. Thats the downfall of white people. Ya'll embrace the people that talk shit about you and you woke mother fuckers just go along with it and put your head down.

I respect all cultures but we are not the same. The daily shit that makes up my life has nothing in common with other cultures. When I'm around my white folks, I'm gonna talk about shit going on in Outer space, Donald Trump, Rock n Roll, Cobra Kai, science shit, Vikings + Medieval history, UFO's, the meaning of life, all that nerd shit.... You think I can walk into a group of other cultures and have those conversations,, hell no!

And I get the historical makeup of this country, you had multiple cultures of "White decent" that didn't unify or consider themselves white at the time. They all did their own thing and eventually over time, their traditions fizzled out. In my last paragraph I said for "US" as white people need to unite as one and bring back some the traditions from our ancestors moving forward. We can respect other people's culture but enough of the bullshit of trying to remove & replace ours.

Superfluous simplification of larger issues with many contributing factors not understood or recognized due to limited and singular focused perspectives. That's why I vote for no politic talk on soccer forum.

There is a simple that has a simple answer.

When asked which country you represent or what nationality you are, we say American or America, maybe USA. We don't put a distinction or a qualifier on it. A player isn't just representing a sub-culture within our national make-up when playing for our country. Don't make it overly complicated.

Let's get back to discussing football.

The technical and tactical level of the league as a whole is higher than the MLS. Whether it helps Reggie or hurts him to play a more advanced style and compete against it, time will tell. Many Americans have thrived learning more and having more pressure. Some haven't. He's definitely playing as an audition for Lille ir for one of the three big clubs in Portugal. It also will allow Reggie to get a work permit in the UK next year (although that's an old rule who knows with Brexit)....

"Regardless of whatever mission" @stoked? I think that's where a lot of us draw the line. Back in the day sure but since Vietnam I'm pretty sure we repeatedly violate the Geneva Convention on a regular basis. Only our physical and economic might spares us from war crimes charges. I respect the fight against the VA for our vets as I believe they are poorly treated when they come home, like used garbage. I respect those who serve their time dutifully and with honor and integrity. But that's not the case for all our men and women in uniform and so they will not be uniformly praised just for their military service. Many people here in the USA think a lot of military actions especially recently bring dishonor to the country and and only serve to protect the wealthy multinational companies that don't give a shit about the USA...

Like it or not guys like Cannon, Yedlin and whoever else represent the USA on a global stage more than your average GI in the middle of some foreign desert. Pulisic and McKennie (with his support from Juventus- I wonder how that goes because Italians are super not racist lol) are household names to many around the planet and would be more recognizable in 2022 World Cup than many other Americans doing "regular jobs" or people in a military base in say Japan. So of course players actions and thoughts matter, just like everybody's matter. Except these guys have more of a platform than some poor guy from Georgia in his second tour.

Im thinking Reggie rises to the occasion and will do well.

Re Military: I agree that some who serve may not be good people. But they are not choosing thier missions the carry out orders given from the top-if you are in the military and they say we are going to bomb Iraq you do not get to say Ill sit this one out I dont agree. Those orders are given by their commanders and or Commander in Chief-I myself dont like some of the wars that we have been dragged into but it doesn't reduce the fact that our brave men and women are still in harms way, and for what-to protect our liberties etc Doesn't mean they agree or disagree with a war, mission, or whatever Presidents ideology- whether they agree or disagree they are still in harms way--If we disagree with wars, international policy etc that issue is with our Government-not the men and women who serve.

I also agree athletes have a bigger platform than all of us, and they should be free to choose to voice their concerns should they choose to do so at the club level--
To be clear I am not at all for someone being left out b.c of thier poltical views but rather if you are saying in essence you do not like our country and you want to sit out then I think that is a different story.

Anyways, Im hoping he does well and we have this conversation again-which would mean he is doing well and getting called up-my guess is he would love to be called up and is just emotional about the topic it was yedlin who was more vocal about sitting out for the national team

Gloster is another option at the Left Back position. He's been training off & on with PSV's first team. If he breaks into the PSV 1st team regularly could easily see him leapfrog into the 23.
Another possible option I wouldn't mind seeing (longshot) would be Fabian if he ever gets healthy. He's experienced and could be deployed at multiple positions (LB, RB, LM, RM) which could be a major advantage in tournament play.
Ultimately will come down to what Gregg believes between Robinson & Cannon/Yedlin. If he believes Cannon or Yedlin are better RB's than Robinson is a LB than Dest will be the starting LB and Cannon/Yedlin the starting RB.
If Dest is the starting RB & Robinson the starting LB....we could see 3 RB's on the squad if Gregg believes Cannon/Yedlin are better overall than the nearest in line LB.

I really hope Dest is not in consideration for LB. Robinson has played well this last yr but depth at that position is non existent. I wouldnt mind gloster, Gasper, Vines, Lima etc getting looks so we can find out who will be number 2 behind Robinson.

And if Fabian is healthy he would be my number 1 LB

At 32 and currently without a club it's hard to see him back in the USMNT picture, but if he finds a club and stays healthy it's not completely out of the question. If this happens great, but I'd still have him as the back-up. He's got a lot of miles on his legs and we need to be looking long term as well as immediate.
A. Robinson is our best long term option right now and was playing really well at the end of last season. I'd have him as the starter and Fabian as the security blanket if Robinson struggles in an important match...while other LB options/prospects develop at their clubs.

I think Fabian like Ream are past their primes for consideration. Fabian I don't believe was a regular starter last year. I would have the prospects grow together.

I'm more willing to consider Fabian than Ream for the simple fact we don't have any real depth at LB; while there are plenty of options at CB.
That said for Fabian to get a call he'll still have to find a club and prove that he's healthy, and I'm not that confident that this will happen.
