I like the move personally. Would have been great to see him go to a bigger league, but assuming he is able to start every game, this can be really good.

At 22, hes young and has some time. If he intends on making this his first stop, staying 2-3 seasons and jumping to a bigger club and league at age 24 to 25, this could turn out to be awesome.

We need quality depth. I just wish he was a LB instead of a RB. We seem pretty covered on the right at the moment. Outside of Antonee Robinson... LB is suspect.

If we generally applaud young players moving to the Eresdivisie, we should feel exactly the same about this. They are very similar leagues, quality wise.

As a reminder...

bjelks has made numerous claims that guys like Lynden Gooch (who plays in League One), Romain Gall (an MLS washout on the books of a Swedish team, out on loan to a Norwegian team), and Konrad (only recently starting to play in the third tier of Spain after moving up from youth teams) should get called into the mens national team...

...and even in this thread brought up Cameron Harper (a kid he has never seen because he is playing in the reserves of a Scottish team and has never played a senior minute)...

...yet he is bashing Reggie Cannon because hes moving to a better league and level than all of those players... oh, and due to his "old" age of 22 (reminder that Gooch is 24 and Gall is 25)...

That is a prime example of mental gymnastics. It is complete lunacy, wildly contradictory, and hypocritical to say the least. Its crap like this why I continue to call out the guy. He took the stance that all MLS sucks and he is unwilling to move if anything positive happens to any player he (or Brian Kleiban) hasn't personally touted. The stuff he spews is just complete and utter nonsense.

Some of what he says makes sense, then he goes all conspiracy theory and racist etc. I have no problem with his post until he does that stuff.

Hopefully this is a turning point for MLS and young players. Give them a shot and see how they do. Playing them only benefits your bottom line.

As for Reggie very happy for him. He's a bright young kid. This was always the next step for him and I'm encouraged by all the reports of what Boavista is planning for him.

The problem is we have Yedlin, Chandler, Richards, Moore who are most likely better RBs
Yedlin and Chandler are more proven
Richards is at a higher club level and better environment
Moore passes the eye test more technically

Chandler isn't a candidate for RB he's not a USA player anymore I don't think.

Yedlin, I agree currently although Cannon is better technically.

Richards is a CB playing him wide is a waste of his skills.

I love Shaq Moore I always have since he showed he was a team player. He's also older than Reggie and so Reggie will have played higher level club soccer sooner.

***this is basically a move to Lille via a year at Boavista, not too shabby indeed.

The problem is you basically only want someone that agrees with your opinion which you pass off as expertise, if someone disagrees with you, they are labeled racist, fan boy or you reference some notion of some quota system which isn't based on any evidence, just player selections that you disagree with.

Pretty sure Frankfurt moved Chandler up the pitch last year, and it's an open question whether he wants to continue with the USMNT set up.

Richards is a CB.

I like Yedlin, and think he gets overlooked, but Cannon playing in Portugal > Yedlin sitting the bench in the EPL.

Moore is older and playing at a lower level. That's literally two of your biggest factors when determining who goes where on the pecking order.

I like Cannon and hope he succeeds--He may not want to suit up for the Nats though anyway, he recently said he doest want the Anthem to play at games and thinks the USA is totally racist.

Yedlin has said he was deciding whether to play for the Nats going Fwd as well.

My guess is both want to play with the Nats are just talking but Im getting tired of politics in sports. But if that is how they feel I am not sure they would want to accept a call up-

Chandler is a more proven RB than Cannon and it's not a question whether he's interested but I know how USSF likes to treat guys that look like him with his background

Richards played 40% of the games at RB and he's listed by Bayern's officials twitter as 2nd in the RB depth

Lol I'm sorry I don't agree that a rotational player at mid table EPL should be rated lower than a bottom table Portuguese player with no games

Shaq Moore is 1 or 2 yrs younger and his level at bottom table Portugal maybe marginally better

It just seems that the gold posts keep being pushed back for this kid just bc he came from mls.

It seemed playing at a lower level didn't matter when it was Reggie, but now bc Reggie is at a slightly higher level than Moore, it does. Make it make sense for me lol.

Both of those boys would love to play if called. Both of them have American wives of another race. I'm pretty sure they identify with not being black more than they do being black.

You can totally be ok with playing for USA bc you love the country and hate its systematic racism, police brutality, social injustice and apathy to hate crimes over race.

If they feel that strongly about it then they shouldn't play. I want players who will give there all for the Colors and the Country. If you aren't sure about representing this country nationally then don't play.

I can understand but I think these are young men. I think young men say brash things, give it some time and let the emotion subside. Also, they will live abroad and have different experiences and get a different perspective.

Hopefully time away from home they can appreciate our country more. But they are fellow Americans and I'll support them, even if I disagree with them.

But yeah, there is a large part of me that just wants to watch a relaxing game without the pressure of some the bullshit that is happening in society.

This phrase can only be uttered by someone with privilege. And speaking as a straight, cis white male, I have those privileges as well. What about these protests that athletes are participating in bothers you?
