Reggie Cannon admits he's concerned about a potential summer move to Europe:

"Yeah,it's obviously a concern. Being transparent, I want to give Dallas 100% for however long I'm here. But the goal was to be transferred in the summer, but obviously...it's a tough time for transfers"

Cannon, continued:

"Regardless of if it happens (this summer) or not, I don't think it'll hinder my career at all. It's God's timing, I have to trust in him and have faith, which I do. At the end of the day, I know my future is over there (Europe), whenever that may be."

I wonder what offers he has. Some German teams definitely have called I'm sure. I wonder if he's eligible for a work visa for The UK. He's got to have played close to the 75% of US matches over the past year.

I hope it's Germany where he goes, I don't feel the English value American players or give them a fair shake. The Germans truly put forth the effort to develop young players.

If this interview doesn't get you excited about this kid then nothing will. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/04/16/fc-...

Hopefully, he can go to Europe and become a more well-rounded player. Would be nice to see him be more of a goal threat from his RB position.

I'm not here to hate, but I'm not getting my hopes up about Cannon.

I've seen him play quite a few times and he's never stuck out to me.

And if you're comparing him to a younger player that's considered to have a world class ability like Dest, he's nowhere close in technique, quality or quickness and acceleration.

I wish the kid the best but I would temper my expectations for him. Maybe he can be a bottom tier Bundesliga or Ligue 1 RB, but I don't see him being a Champs League quality player.

I'd like to hear what a more qualified scout thinks of his prospects.

From my very limited observations of both players, Dest is by far the better technical player / attacking talent, but Cannon is a better defender who is competent getting forward. Dest might produce more highlights but Cannon might not get caught out as much so the net positive might be better. Both players have room to improve but each could be very good, which is a good problem to have.

Both Cannon (21) and Dest (19) are young players who are still developing and refining their abilities and their game. They each have their strengths and weaknesses.
Dest is the superior technical player....but IMO he's slightly behind Cannon on the outright defensive tactics/awareness. The good news is that players can more easily learn Defensive tactics/awareness than they can develop technical ability. Dest will have every opportunity while playing @ AJAX to improve his tactical understanding of his defensive responsibilities.

I don't think it matters all that much which of the 2 is the starter against CONCACAF opposition, but at the moment I'd start Cannon over Dest at RB if we were playing a competitive game against one of the top 10 teams in the world.
I also agree with you that both could be very good players....and that it's a good problem to have. Especially considering the issues we have previously had with finding quality back-ups when players are ruled out due to injuries.
The USMNT is starting to have quality & depth across the field. Dest & Cannon @ RB is just another example of how the program is improving despite the federation, manager, and relative young age of the team.
All of these players are under 22 yrs Old and either are significant contributors to their clubs/leagues or on the verge....
Dest, Cannon, Adams, McKennie, Pulisic, Reyna, & A. Robinson are all seeing consistent minutes with good teams/leagues and should be a nice core of players to build around.
Sargent, Weah, Llanez, Ladezma, Gloster, Vassilev, Pomykal, Cappis, & Aaronson appear to be on the verge of becoming consistent contributors or moving up in leagues.
That's 16 players who are under 23 and garnering interest by coaches & fans as USMNT players. I can't think of any time in the past 30+ years where we've had this many players in consideration.
