Assuming everyone is healthy, playing, and in form, who would you choose to play against a top 10 team?

I would play a 3-5-2 since we would probably would have little of the ball

Steffen
Miazga, Brooks, Robinson (ATL)
Dest, Holmes, Adams, Mckennie, Robinson
Pulisic, Sargent

I think you're close, but I do not agree we would see little of the ball with everyone healthy and available. I think we could field our most talented roster ever if everyone is available and in form and I think we would have the athletes to win duals, press and force turnovers and the quality to keep the ball.

I would play a 4-2-3-1.

Steffen
Dest, Brooks, Miazga, A Rob
Adams, Mckennie
Pulisic, Holmes, Weah
Sargent

I actually agree with bjelks, at least as far as the formation goes. I think a 4-2-3-1 best suits our current player pool and our top prospects. Our best XI for 2020 would look along the following....
------------Sargent-----------
--Pulisic------Holmes------Weah--
-----McKennie------Adams-------
-Dest----Brooks----Miazga----Yedlin-
-----------Steffen------------
-
The best part is that we'll have some quality subs we can call upon to inject a slightly different look and skillset.
Subs:
Morris for Sargent, Reyna for Weah or Pulisic, Ledesma/Hyndman for Holmes
Depth:
Pomykal, A. Robinson, Cannon, EPB/CCV/M. Robinson, Long, Aaronson, Llanez,
We still need a reliable option to back-up Adams at the 6 and I hope Horvath can re-emerge as an option to back-up Steffen at the Keeper position as I'm not a fan of Johnson, Hamid, or Guzan.
-
With some of the young talent we have emerging I would not be surprised to see a couple of the younger guys leap into the XI by 2021...Reyna, Lledezma, & Gloster are all looking as if they're close to breaking through.

To defend my 3-5-2, I would argue that Dest and Robinson operate better as wingers than as defenders. Having a block of three with Adams as cover helps neutralize attacks if Dest or Robinson get caught upfield.

Pulisic operating as an off forward gives him a free role.

Well, at least qualifying this time will be intense. We're gonna be on the edge of our seat for every single point. I don't have any major disagreements with these line-ups, but I think that's a fairly weak team. Not to mention some of those guys are currently injured.

Lol @thetruth are you saying the best we can offer is a fairly weak team or we have better guys that we're missing from the teams posted?

Sargent

Pulisic. Ledezema, , Morris/ Holmes/Ul

Reyna Adams

Dest Brooks Robinson Cannon

Steffen

I am also of the opinion Horvath or even Klinnsman should emerge. I think Weah is not ready for a long while because a long lay off. I would have Weston as a utility man back up. And starting over Reyna when it is a physical team, definitely not a top ten team though. I would have EPB, Long, Hines-Ike, Richards, CCV, Gloster/ Miagza in camp to battle it out.

Similarly, I would have Ferrira, Saucedo and maybe Soto to create competition at the forward position.

Agree 100% on Horvath. There is no reason he should not be in the mix and given the opportunity to compete for the job. There are decisions made in this sport that are out of the control of the players and they should not be punished or ostracized because of it.

Reyna isn't a defensive mid. He's an attacking mid or wing.

I view him more as an attacking mid and linking up play, let Adams being the primary defensive mid.

I've no issue with using a 3-5-2 or a 5-3-2 when/if it makes since for who we're matching up against. However it would force one of our attacking players (Morris, Reyna, Weah) to be sidelined in favor of a 3rd CB.
It would make since if we were facing someone we were expecting to have difficulty with, but in CONCACAF at least we shouldn't need to resort to it very often.

4231 can always shift to a 433

The USMNT always performs best when we have the numbers in midfield/when we win the midfield battle

--Altidore--
-Pulisic-Holmes-Morris-
-Mckennie-Adams-
-Robinson-Brooks-Miazga-Dest-
-Steffen-

Subs: Sargent, Reyna, Morales/Yedlin

Still think Altidore has something in the tank especially against CONCACAF opponents
Sargent scored a goal recently but Kohfeldt killed him on his naivety and not making the proper runs.He just turned 20 he has time especially since its looking like he'll be in the Bundesliga 2 next season

Morris over Weah might make some upset but I think Morris is slightly better at making the runs plus he's a better finisher than young Timo right now. It'll change once Tim gets back such a disappointing season for him

Dest over Yedlin/Cannon is tough its good to have nice depth at RB

For fun I would like to see this.
I hate the idea of Adams at RB but it would be interesting to see so we could get other guys in the mix

I would like to see Green as well-he can play creative midfield or striker-
Weah can play out wide but I preffer him up top
Gio can play beneath fwd or out wide

good thing we have young guys with speed-who can play multiple fwd roles

Would have Uly, Feirria EPB, lima, Paxton, Hyndman, Fabian, Ledezma, on the bench

Nice to see the young guys get some time but frankly now not sure how fringe guys will get a look unless qualifying is pushed backed who knows how this will play out

Tokyo summer games officially postponed.

My guess is that they will push it out 1 year and adjust the age requirement to 24 for these games to enable anyone who was eligible this cycle to remain eligible for the postponed event. Thats the only thing that makes sense and is fair to those involved.
