We've been very weak at wing for the past 3 yrs.

And that is why I want to play Dest as an attacker!

If Dest is playing as RB, he will rush up to join the attack..meanwhile the guy on the wing may well lose the ball and Dest will be out of position. I trust Dest to keep the ball over most of our other options.

But here's the deal, we have Reyna, Ully, Konrad, and Weah emerging possibly the best wing depth we've ever had.
All of them can change games.
With Dest and Robinson at wing back, we'll have the most dangerous attack in USA history.

Could you imagine us with 11 players capable of going toe to toe with the world's best

A quick rant based on some of the convo: Bottom line is this. GB wasted more than a year recognizing talent and evaluating prospects/Fringe players. We are now very close to qualifiers. And it looks like we have a good problem, we have several, young, players playing well overseas. Sure not all those guys play on the 1st team, sure some play for the youth team HOWEVER what must be noted is a 4th division player Ully was the best player on the field last game, by far. The worst player on the field was ariola.

NOT every euro playing youth is going to pan out. But we can not afford to not call players in who show promise to either be a regular or a player that maybe able to produce in the WC or a player who could be a 60' min sub. GB and staff need to do a better job at evaluation:

Its hard to ignore that Konrad scored for Barca 2, its impressive that he is now training with the 1st team (frankly I think it b.c they want him to stay and it is a contract ploy) but if we are being honest, what mls player on the nats could train with Barca right now?

You have Gio who sure looks like he maybe able to produce something in 2 yrs.
We have Holmes who has played well and can't get called in.
Green who plays well can't get called in.
We have a prob 5 to 7 other names of players who should have been looked at as well.

for the MLS homers on this site: Lima, Robinson, Paxton, what gives with them not getting more looks?

Why has Lima been dropped? Will GB bring back Feirra/servania ?
In a camp like this why bring Long/Zimmerman --was a great opportunity to try Ike, to try other guys-b.c once WCQ starts I can already hear " we can bring in guys b,c of chemistry.

The good news, I thought we played well vs costa, the bad news it showed we wasted time always calling in: Roldon, Trapp, Baird, Sweat, Bradley, etc It is clear that there are other options that need to be evaluated more to see who we end up with come go time.

Re Dest I would like to see him higher up the field. I don't want to see him at LB, if you watch him in games he certainly should be up the field. I would like to see lima behind him. I would like Dest loose on offense-his defense is ok, needs work. Re Weah out wide; if we are being honest his touch sucks compared to Dest, I think he is more of a striker.

Chandler is a guy whom is a prime example of my point on other posts. He plays in a better league, has better skill than most on the Nats BUT when he plays for us he sucks and looks disinterested. Doesn't seem to be a guy who bleeds red/white/blue. But I would be up for calling him in to let the coaches/players get a feel for his commitment.

Ill go ahead and make this claim-I think there is a decent chance our back four come WC is an all MLS back line. I think it will be long and Robinson. Brooks will be out hurt. GB will have Cannon on the right, and probably vines on the left.

with the guys who we have them are attackers and comfortable with the ball at thier feet is sure is looking positive for us, the question then becomes: who will GB bring in, can he make in game adjustments, and can he get out of relying on the same guys and think outside the box on his 23.

We finally have guys who can trap the ball, take players on, and shoot outside the 18, make good runs, etc we need to develop and build on that and not worry about who that may offend inside of SUM and mls

I don't think Lima is anywhere close to Dest, Chandler,Yedlin, or Cannon as a rb.

Also Vines is nowhere close to Antonee Robinson or Fabian Johnson and will never be.

I know Long is the Great American Hope but he's been a liability 1v1 against some pretty mediocre to low tier teams. It's fine to give some others a shot like Miazga, Alvarado, EPB, Richards.

Why would we intentionally call on backs that don't have the technical ability to play with their euro counterparts?

I agree with you re AR-he got burned by a world class player and people immediately wrote him off, what he has shown is technical ability, grit, speed, i have no clue how we called up sweat instead of him or when we play ream instead of AB-like I said GB has wasted ample time to give the players whom show quality.

The thing about lima is he played well when he played, sure cannon maybe better defensively, Im not so sure he is better with the ball at this feet but cannon maybe faster, I'm not against cannon he has shown well, I just don't think Lima should have been dropped for no apparent reason.

Johnson would love to see him and AR fight for the LB spot.

Re Chandler I just don't think he cares about the US, he just never seemed to give it his all when playing with us. But maybe there were other things going on.

I have been calling for Richards and EPB to get called in for a while. I personally don't rate CCV. but EPB and Richards should have been called in over the last 2 years. I don't think long is as bad as you think-but I certainly think EPB, Robinson, Ricahards, should be called in and evaluated

Im comfortable with Cannon at RB, jury is out with yedlin, I would just like to see a game with Dest moved forward and AR at LB I don't want to see Dest at LB- the kid has swagger-lets see what he looks like for 90 more advanced.

If I can ask...what formation would you play? And what would be your ideal lineup?

To accommodate the way you would like to play we would need 2 or 3 very good Central Defenders...not sure who they would be. With Dest and Robinson being better attacking than defending, they would get very exposed.

I am pretty sure you would put Adams in the middle to help protect the D, but who else?

As for me, right now, given the pool we have, I would play this way:

4-3-3

Steffen
Cannon, Long, Brooks, Robinson
Mckennie, Adams, Holmes
Dest, Sargent, Pulisic

I like the 4-3-3
Steffen
Dest, Miazga, Brooks, Robinson
Adams
Mckennie
Holmes
CP Weah
Sarg

I've seen Miazga lock up Jimenez. I've also seen Miazga keep a tight line playing beside Omar and behind an awful Bradley against Chile so I believe in him.

I'm not worried about Dest and Robinson's defense. Our midfield will be the hardest it's ever been to play through and we'll have the best wing play we've ever had.

I honestly believe Dest and Robinson's ability to get forward combined with the pace and quality of our wings will cause problems for any team and I mean any team in the world.

I understand there is sentimental love for Cannon, but Chandler and Yedlin are much more proven players and Chandler has expressed interest in playing for us over the last yr.

If Weah isn't ready to go or in form, Reyna more than the looks the part and Uly and Konrad are coming.

With Ledezma nearing 1st team action, we should have more than enough to be a legit threat in 22.
