Tomorrow we get to see who GB picks from Euro based players. I don't expect many surprises. GB has guaranteed a win so how will that affect his player selection and tactics?

But what happens, if we lose again?

Nothing I assume. 2 wins is absolutely necessary but I don't think he's gone if we lose or draw vs Canada and then a comfortable win vs Cuba.

Orlando has been a very good home field advantage for the Nats but with Berhalter still trying to fit square pegs into round holes the variance of results is ridiculous.

If we are going to be passive defensively, is that the best use of Adams?

Just day dreaming of a possible lineup versus Canada...

Steffen
Dest, Long, Brooks, Toljan
Holmes, McKennie
Boyd, Ledezma, Pulisic
Sargent

Yes, I realize Holmes is not your prototypical cm, but he can tackle and is quick.

Antonee Robinson named to Championship best 11 for October by who scored

"Rounding off the defence, Robinson won his second WhoScored.com Man of the Match award of the season in October with a star showing in Wigan's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest. The American was defensively sound, chipping in with 17 tackles and and more interceptions (18) than any other player."

I like it but I'd swap Boyd for Sabbi perhaps

Or perhaps I would play Yedlin or Cannon at RB and have Dest replace Boyd

I still believe our best chance for advancement in this tournament is to change tactics/formation to better take advantage of the strengths of our player pool.
.
--------Pulisic-----------Sargent----------
----------------Holmes-----------------
-------Morales---------------McKennie-----
-Robinson---------------------------Dest-
--------Alvarado-----Brooks------Miazga------
----------------Steffens-----------------
.
In the last match we were out muscled in the center of the field and our defense was stretched by the Canadian's speed & off the ball movement.
Let Morales & McKennie be the muscle (Grit) in the center of the field. Holmes or Green can be the link to Pulisic & Sargent.
Robinson & Dest or Dest & Yedlin/Cannon will provide the speed and width down the flanks assisting the attack...while limiting their defensive responsibilities/short comings.
Pulisic gets more of a free reign role to drop back....or go wide as necessary to find the pockets of open space.
We don't have a #10 to really create so Holmes/Green get the responsibility. Without Adams we don't have that CDM who can turn in tight spaces or be the Stopper in front of a back 4 that covers ground and snuffs out the opponent's attack, so we use McKennie & Morales to split the field of play and force Canada wide into potential double team of Robinson & Alvarado and Miazga & Dest.
Unfortunately, we'll never see something like this under Berhaulter. We'll once again be over-run in the center and will have players on islands without the ability to link passes.

Makes sense and potentially stabilizes us in the back. I would tweak it a little though...

I would make it a 3-4-2-1:

Steffen
Long, Brooks, Miazga
Dest, Morales, McKennie, Robinson/Toljan
Holmes, Pulisic
Sargent

I don't see any MLS guys in your lineup...that will never do . But seriously, I don't think Long has done much wrong in a US shirt and has earned his spot.

We could just as easily play Cannon at RB and play Dest out of position as a LB.

I am hesitant to have Sargent as a lone striker as he would have to hold up play and distribute...I am not sure he has honed that part of his game though. Granted, I can't see Zardes being effective either, so might as well have a guy that can score out there.

The nice thing is it gives free roles for Holmes and Pulisic between the midfield and striker. Defensively, the wingbacks can come back into a back 5 as needed.

I do think this formation is a possibility when Adams is fully healthy. We can play out from the back by utilizing the flanks. When they take that away Pulisic and Holmes will be there more centrally.

Yes, but we do not have any world class defenders. When he has played for us he has not looked out of place and has put forth a good effort and generally done well.

While he has done well, he is not without faults...but the same could be said of every other defender in our pool. Until he plays a few more clunkers in a row I believe he has earned his spot in the first 11.

I think there is this misconception within US soccer fans, media, and mgt that the only level above MLS is world class when in fact there are many other levels between mls and world class.

I struggle with the ideology that just because someone hasn't looked terrible like a Trapp or Roldan that they've earned a right to be included and start.
I would argue about him not looking out of place and generally doing well. When I say he's looked bad 1v1 against avg players, I think we can definitely upgrade there at CB.

I personally think Miazga is better at every aspect of the game right now.
I'm interested in what Alvarado and EPB can do as well.
And I think Richards is on the verge of World Class.
I would say all those guys are more skilled and better athletes than Long.

CB hasn't been a big sore spot for the natl team but they also haven't been a strong suit.

I would say the only guys that are legitimately automatic are Pulisic, Adams, Mckennie, Brooks, Dest, Sarg, Yedlin, and Steffen. Everyone else can be replaced.

I can honestly say, I haven't seen EPB or Alvarado given a chance. I'd like to see them.

You have Richards and Ledezma about to break into first team. I should say Richards just began training with the first team. I think you take the chance call in Ledezma and Richards.

Then, after the match you reach out to Elfrain Alvarez. Seeing if, he'll switch back.

I would prefer not to give Ream a chance at all just because age. He is too old to be a significant contributor. Put Dest at RB and Cannon at LB, Miagza and CCV. Miagza and CCV have paired up before. I still want to see Brandon Hines-Ike and Richards, maybe against Cuba. I am looking forward to seeing if GB makes any changes.

Oh yeah, call in Fabian too.

Literally nobody has said that. Its pretty well established that there are a number of levels between MLS and the top tier professional soccer, or "world class".
