One game each vs Cuba and Canada.

Previously Canada has defeated Cuba twice and sit on 6 points. Having not played, the USA is sitting on 0 points. Assuming the USA beats Cuba twice, winning this group comes down to USA v Canada. On the surface this is a pair of Ws for the USA.

Coach Herdman of Canada is alr day saying they've been waiting 10-15 years for these games v USA. I expect a full blooded press from them to see what we have. Johnathan David and Alfonso Davies can give USA problems.

Saying all that, if Gregg can't win this group, we don't go to the final round with the Mexicos and Costa Ricas. These games can be used to cap tie players and or reward players with call ups.
I would consider calling in Richy Ledezma myself. I think he could get comfortable with the group looking to a year from now when he should be in that PSV first team. I miss the days of Juergen bringing Jordan Morris to train with the team early rather than late. Same thing with Keaton Parks. I think what Yueill brought Parks can do better.

I've got tickets to the game against Cuba in DC. I'm hoping to cap tie Dest and see him as our starting LB but if he holds out to keep his options open then I sincerely want Beasley to start at LB. I would love to give him a proper send off and let's be honest he could still be a more meaningful contributor to this team than a meh player like Daniel Lovitz.

I agree with this. Richy Ledzema should be in the mix. Haven't seen Keaton play that much.

After our less than stellar displays recently I'm inclined to think we need to bring the best possible team we can for these October matches. We need to make a statement to the rest of CONCACAF, and since many of our likely starters are still fighting their way back from injury (Brooks, Yedlin, Adams, Miazga), and the possibility of some not excepting the call (Dest) we need to look at where are strengths are.
I'm not so concerned about the Cuba matches....but we need make sure Canada does not hang around. We need to pin them back in their own end and not give them the chance to steal points.
-
Against Cuba we should have 75% or greater possession:
--Pulisic---Jozy/Sargent--Boyd-
------Holmes-----
-Robinson/Dest---McKennie---Cannon-
--Alvarado--Brooks/Long--Miazga--
------Steffen-----
.
Bench: Horvath, S. Johnson, Zimmerman, Ream, CCV/EPB, Lima, Bradley, Morales/Williams, Green, Morris, Arriola, Zardes
.
Against Canada we should still have ~60% possession
----Jozy----
-Pulisic--McKennie-Holmes-Morris-
----Bradley----
-Ream--Brooks--Miazga-Cannon-
----Steffen----
If somehow Adams is healthy enough than put him in as the starter against Canada w/ Bradley to come on at the 60 min mark. If Yedlin is healthy than he slots in at RB. Arriola possibly for Morris & Green possibly for Holmes.

It would be nice to see GB experiment with Ledezema and Parks but highly doubtful that he will. We'll see Trapp, Zardes and Roldan

- Sargent -
Pulisic - Reyna - Boyd
- Holmes - Ledzema -

You can sub in: Mendez, J Sonora, Adams, Parks, Matko Miljevic

And I saw the tweet about the upcoming 17 year old Brazilian/American Jao Lucas (forward/midfield)

WTF is wrong with US Soccer ??? I don't get it

The reason I'm calling for Parks is that since obviously defense isn't important for Berhalter and his #6, but ball control, technique and passing are. Parks I think has the highest combined level of all candidates for that spot. Especially in his ability to take a positive touch or half turn to create space to either dribble farther away from a defender to get more space, or more simply just to shit the ball to a better foot for an angle for a pass. Aside from experience I don't see what Bradley would have to offer than Parks. Or Trapp or Yueill....

It's been obvious that first Sargent and then Dest should be called in because they are better players, and that's been obvious to some for awhile. Berhalter claimed he wanted to "win now" during the gold cup and we tried but failed. Ok. Now it's time for others to play and Gregg should experiment. We have not so many games before World Cup qualifying for one thing. For another, if we have more talented players they should be called into the camp at minimum. I'm not saying give Mendez, Ledezma and whoever else is fringy or "not ready" the bulk of starters minutes, but a small amount of playing time mixed with a full camp would enable those players to be up to speed once the World Cup qualifying starts (and in theory they have broken through at their clubs). The Berhalter system is complicated and takes time to learn and to me it's better to bring in the talented players early rather than too late. Because next year during qualifying if these guys haven't been in camps it's entirely possible that Berhalter sticks with his guys... he needs to see more players than his pets.

Been very impressed with Parks. Starting to be a regular for Torrent plus NYCFC is first in the East. This was a good loan for him. Im definitely in the call up Parks camp.

Who gets the callup?

Weah still injured,. Adams still injured. Will Dest accept a cap tying call up? Do you call up Ledezma and Gloster? What I think we will see. Which MLS guys will be selected?

GK: Johnson, Guzan, Steffen

D: Dest, Cannon, Lima, Gloster, Robinson, Brooks, Long, Ream

M: McKennie, Lletget, Yueill, Bradley, Sonora, Roldan, Ledezma

A: Sargent, Altidore, Toye, Pulisic, Morris, Pomykal

Screw it call up 24 and see what Ledezma can do.

And Pomykal can play any of the attacking positions in midfield.

Sonora definitely deserves a call up from his production so far.

Torrent is out here comparing Parks with Thiago Alcantara.....

I think we will see two different teams out there. The more experienced away to Canada while the "more talented, younger players" should get the run out at home vs Cuba.

In addition to Parks and Ledezma, I'd also call up Alex Mendez and Chris Richards. Those two guys also deserve an early understanding of the program and system as their talent will get them on professional fields shortly (I understand they already play second and third division soccer, like Dest last year. For a first division talent, that counts for me.... if the guy is a career player at that level- see Lynden Gooch- I can say that it's different.).... so yea- Parks, Ledezma, Mendez, Richards as first time call ups. I foresee Dest sitting these games out unfortunately.
