Between Mendez at Ajax and Ledezma at PSV, we are getting somewhere. Mendez has such a sweet left foot. As Tab Ramos said "if he was South American it would 20 million and people would say he's the next Riquelme." But just like Ledezma, Alex Mendez has a clause in his contract as a non EU player which means the amount of money spent on Mendez almost guarantees him first team minutes at some point. If I could have chosen a team name out of a hat for Mendez I do believe there's a good chance it would be Ajax. They have always developed the attacking player.

Fast forward one year he's getting some time with the first team. Mendez still has the best left foot and passing vision of any of our midfield prospects. It's tough to break through at Ajax but I still definitely believe in Alex. Players like him give us a good chance to win because with the limited chances we get as the USA the guys have to be as clinical as possible. Mendez is that. The depth up front and in midfield is there but the defense is highly questionable. Until we get to the point where our CBs and #6 are running the game it's probably too much of a luxury to have a guy like Mendez unless he sharpens up defensively.

@hamsamwich - While we aren't there yet and I don't think Greg would have the guts to try it...here's a hypothetical XI (a year from now) that could potentially get our best XI on the field at the same time (If all are seeing 1st team minutes)....
----Pulisic-----Reyna---Mendez-----
A.Robinson--McKennie---Adams----Dest
----Richards----Brooks----Miazga----
Subs: Weah, Uli/Konrad, Sargent
-
Robinson & Dest are very attack minded backs. Dest in particular likes to get into the oppositions box & play the quick passing game. Robinson deals a very nice/dangerous cross from the left.
-
If you don't like A. Robinson insert Gloster
If you don't like Miazga insert EPB or flip Richards to the right side and insert CCV.
Options to back-up/replace McKennie & Adams are still TBD but there are some options who could emerge in the next couple years (Aaronson & Pomykal come to mind, but they're currently a big drop off from the starters).

You never disappoint with your continued obsession with Johannsson, an oft-injured substitute in the Swedish league who's about to turn 30. And your fake hatred of Adams. To go along with the standard guys who haven't made it yet, I thought there would be some new 15 year olds who are years away from being ready if they are ever ready. Maybe they're on the bench. I thought you might be including a guy like Malick Sanogo, 16 years old and scored 16 for Union Berlin's U-17s.

Pellegrino Matarazzo and VfB Stuttgart got their Bundesliga campaign off the ground on Saturday with a win over Mainz.
