Reading further into this situation, it seems Scott made a bad decision not only in choosing Newcastle but also in signing a contract that gives the club the option of extending the contract one more year.

I have read Newcastle want a sell on fee from any deal Scott signs with Cincy in case he develops and Cincy sell him. They could be using the club option as a negotiating tool as Scott's wages are low enough that they can afford to pay him for doing nothing.

The only positive to this is Newcastle are extremely vulnerable and look likely to get relegated. They will then presumably get a new manager and the owner will pocket the money from the sale of his players. If they exercise the option he may yet get the chance their, though it is not likely.

Starting to be in that Keaton parks segment where even if he looks decent in MLS he missed a lot of on field development time.

True. For him to be relevant to the national team he needs to really do well to get noticed and sold back to Europe.

The two things that are in his favor are he is a dual national (though he is English I will list Ireland and us as his only possibilities) and he was prominent within the highly touted Chelsea academy.

I read a funny comment to one of the online articles by a Newcastle fan. He commented something to the effect "Why aren't we playing him? Loook at the pictures...he is holding the balland players are chasing HIM"

It used to be when Alfredo Morales didn't live up to it - or tim ream went to Bolton and got relegated - that was the end of things. Jozy sucking at Hull for example. Now it's like if Scott doesn't ever pan out we have plenty of other players. Good luck to him in the MLS I think he will do quite well, something like Hyndman or Parks I suppose.

Further news has come out that he will be on trial with Cincinnati prior to any finalizing of a contract. He is in the States now undergoing quarantine.

Yes, this is my Don Quixote moment...we all have players we root for and want to do well. It will be nice to see him finally start his career.

According to reports his trial with FC Cincinnati went well. FC Cincy offered him a two year deal and was in the process of negotiating his release from Newcastle when Scott decided to turn down the offer.

Looking at the FC Cincy roster and salary structure, it does not look like they could offer him anywhere near what he is making at Newcastle (he is on 5,000 pounds a week). Plus having witnessed MLS refereeing first hand, he may have decided to stay in Europe.

So it looks like he will move on from Newcastle somewhere else in Europe...maybe catch on with a side promoted to the PL or a mid table team in a top league. Having come through the Chelsea academy he will have a few suitors.
