If we had to win a game right now, everyone currently playing is available, who would you all put as starting 11?
Howard
Zusi Opara Brooks Beasley
Bradley
Adams Bedoya
Pomykal Jozy Pulisic
I went with some old pp for their experience and leadership. Pretending we had a game to win..

Watching Dest and he just doesn't look like he is very excited to play.

He looked really displeased about being subbed. Hope we can fend off the Dutch for him.

I don't think we saw any evidence that the Dutch will be knocking down doors to have him. He is a promising player but was skinned badly in each match he played. I'm sure the Dutch have loads of promising full backs that can do similar things as Dest. If the Dutch really want him, I can't see any reason why he would chose the USA over them. Better team, less travel, more notoriety vs.... games in baseball stadiums?

I would be sad if the Dutch nab him just because with no real long term plans for him in the future. That is the problem with this dual national thing. Teams are just cap tying players just for that reason.
Obviously the argument goes both ways, the players have to use better foresight but FIFA should be more vocal about those situations.

really slow terrible game... midfield was bad, attackers were bad... only Morris seemed to want to try things... Lleget was ok I guess.

Dest looks like a typical young player, good going forward but not ready to be a lock down defender... I really think he could have been the best winger on the USA roster today had he been tried there. I also thought he looked more comfortable on the ball under pressure than all of our CMs... he woulda been better than Roldan... no clue why he's still around...

Can't believe Boyd missed that goal, he looks totally lost...

Again we're losing 1-0 and here comes LOVITZ!! and why the hell are you subbing on Pomykal as a winger with only 5 minutes left?!

I was hopeful and optimistic about berhalter when he was hired but now am really worried for this program...

I'm depressed right now... and watch Cuba and Canada give us problems next month... sheesh....

The glaring hole to me is in central midfield. Count how many times we have people take positive touches on the ball. It's almost always control and then back pass to a central defender. It drives me nuts. It's almost like we want to possess just to run the clock. The lack of dribbling ability and confidence to attack is glaring. There is no way we can ever take a step forward if we have nobody in the middle part of the field who can create.

Just for some context, De Jong didn't make his first team debut for Ajax until he was right around 20, and even then, it was 4 appearances in the '16-'17 season (he spent most of that season with Jong Ajax). The next season he appeared in 22 league games as a 20 year old.

De Ligt made his first team debut for Ajax just after turning 17.

So maybe he got skinned a few times as an 18 year playing against quality international comp for the first time, but he's farther along in his professional career than de Jong was at the same age, and too far behind where de Ligt was. Maybe both de Ligt and de Jong were still considered better prospects at the same points in their careers, but Dest is on the fast track.

One of the major things ive noticed is that this system and style plays well with teams from other federations who just want to play beautiful soccer, but when we play against federation opponents who fight and scrap for everything it crumbles under the physicality of the game. We have to have a plan B to go along with this plan A that involves some dirtiness. We needed that against Mexico!

That's not an entirely true statement. Europe hasn't caught up with us when we are at our best. That was like a C team at best and there were a lot of injuries in that team. So it ended up being a D team.

Also, Europe and South America has one thing a lot of our players don't have is pride. Our best players could care less about playing for their country in basketball. In other countries, it is reciprocal for all sports. If we had the same pride as other countries, we would be a lot further along in soccer and wouldn't lose in basketball ever.

Case & point, the Mexican-American players and Giuseppe Rossi. Many are more prideful about a country that they weren't born in than they are the country that gave them the opportunity, Which hurts because a lot of them could be regulars or depth players for the US. Unlike the dual nationals born in other countries that come play for the US out of opportunity. I doubt Alfredo Morales, Danny Williams, Terrence Boyd, Julian Green would ever have been seriously looked at by Germany.
