@bjelks

We've covered the Sweden vs MLS debate. Sweden is a step behind MLS. There is plenty of evidence to support that.

Gall isn't even a starter or consistent player for his club. Sure, he had a good game the other day... against one of the worst teams in the Swedish league.

Claiming Moore is better skilled than Yedlin? Thats a joke, and we have been over that one too. If he was... he wouldn't have been playing in the Spanish 3rd tier last year... and he wouldn't be in the Spanish 2nd tier now. He would be above that... but he isn't. Thats pretty straight forward when you're comparing a kid with a few top flight appearances vs someone who has been an established starter in the world's best league for years.

The fact that you have argued non stop for Morales... then didn't even include him in your 23 (only as an alternate in parenthesis) is pretty hilarious.

You are so wildly inconsistent with your claims that its comical. You've claimed stats need to be used to measure a player. When the stats don't back it up, its objective rationale. When that doesn't even seem to back it up, class is permanent, it doesn't matter where they are playing (as long as it isn't in MLS). When those players aren't playing, it has to do with fitness. Making a claim that we don't have 23 players better than certain guys... then ignoring the fact that you called for those guys and substituted them with other people because "rosters and selections are fluid". And when all else fails... its either that we don't comprehend your level of understanding of the game and you can't help us, or... racism! There are so many things in there that are contradictory and just straight up dumb that its laughable.

One thing that is consistent, however, is that you constantly state that anyone who disagrees with your nonsensical claims and calls you out on it is either unable to comprehend your advanced soccer intelligence, or a blind follower of the USSF, or unable to think for ourselves, or a small minded American... oh yeah, and racism.

Great stuff. Keep up the good work, bud.

So the question is whom from @Bjelks 23 would you not chose and whom would you choose in their place? You do a good job of discounting everything he says lets see who you would call.

You seem to be a you have to play 1st team to get called in. I disagree with that way of thinking- I think there is not a 1 fit criteria. Some can be called based on 1st team play, some can be based on potential with an eye to the future, some can be based on how they fit into the system, some can be based on stats, some as role players,

Here is 30 guys I would call: left of CP and brook as well

GK: Horvath and whomever else (let Steffen settle into his club he is clearly our number1)

FB: Yedlin, Lima, Cannon, M. Robinson, h.ikes, long, EPB, Miazga, Dest, A.Robinson, Richards, gloster, bello

MF: Green, Mckenzie, Holmes (if fit) Pomykal, Boyd, yueill, d.leyva, sonora, mendez, hyndman, ledezma

FWD: Weah, Sergeant, wooten, Nora, J.ferreria

Below is bjelks 23. I have put in bold the guys I would omit/think will not be included.

GK: Steffen, Horvath, IDC
FB: Yedlin (Richards), Cannon, Brooks (Robinson or Hines-Ike), Long (CCV), Miazga, Zman (EPB), Dest, A Robinson
MF: Pulisic, Mckennie, Adams (Morales), Holmes, Green, Pomykal, Boyd, Sonora, Gall
FWD: Sarg, Arjo, Weah

I wouldn't be surprised if Sargent and Weah were called in, though I personally wouldn't bring Sargent in yet. He is trying to break into the first team at Bremen... I would want him to stay with his club and work for that. Weah is somewhat in the same boat.

Unless he is injured, I expect Altidore to be called in. He is scoring regularly in MLS too... so this shouldn't be a surprise or controversial. Also... Zardes. He is scoring goals in MLS and we know Berhalter rates him. I wouldn't call him in, I repeat... I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T CALL HIM IN, but I still expect to see him in there.

I would personally want to bring in Ventura Alvarado. I don't think we will see Antonee Robinson. Wouldn't surprise me, but I wouldn't put money on it. I expect to see Tim Ream.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Horvath left off, though I would personally call him in.

You called for Wooten... the guy isn't even starting in MLS and has 1 goal to his name since joining the league. Seems he isn't as great as people claimed, and once moving to the league he hasn't had the impact people would think. Maybe Bundesliga 2 isn't as high and mighty compared to MLS as people thought?

Finally, I expect to see at least 1 of either Trapp or Bradley. Again, this is not what I would personally do, I repeat... THIS IS NOT WHAT I WOULD PERSONALLY DO, but this is what I would expect. Bradley makes sense though as long as he wasn't one of the first names at the top of the team sheet. But to have Trapp instead of Bradley, or Trapp AND Bradley... I wouldn't personally do it (unless Bradley had an injury or something).

One thing that has to be taken into consideration is that these are friendlies... and MLS is entering the final stretch of the season. Teams are pushing for the playoffs... so we have to weigh who may or may not be called in based on who plays for what club and what situation that club is in.

That makes things a bit tricky, because then there is a lot of speculation involved when selecting a "who I think Berhalter will call in 23" vs "my preferred 23 regardless of the situation". As a result, I somewhat expect there to be a couple wildcard selections.

Just for sake of research, here are the MLS teams that DO NOT have games during that international window (9/2 to 9/10):
  • Atlanta
  • Philly
  • DC United
  • NY Red Bulls
  • Montreal
  • Chicago
  • Columbus
  • FC Dallas
  • Vancouver
  • Minnesota (but they do have a game 9/11)
  • LA Galaxy (game 9/11)
  • Real Salt Lake (game 9/11)
  • San Jose (game 9/11)
  • Houston Dynamo (game 9/11)
Given this list, and the fact that there are a number of guys who COULD be called in that are on teams trying to make a playoff push, I somewhat think Berhalter may call in a few guys for the first game, then send them back to their clubs and bring in a couple new faces for the second.

I hope the lineup graphics are wrong. Seems like Morales should be our number 6 instead of Trapp. Trapp might even look a better playing a bit farther ahead.

Well, we have finally given a shot to the guys Bjelks has been touting all this time. So far they don't look so great. I hope we have a better 2nd half.

Has Zardes got a touch all match? We might as well be playing 10v11.

This team should be exciting, I mean I was genuinely pleased with 9 out of the starting 11 when the lineup was announced. We just aren't very fun to watch right now.
