At this stage Reyna & Dortmund are just starting to determine what kind of player this kid will be. Right now Reyna is a raw talent...Dortmund will determine what his best position is while also putting together a plan to give him a 2nd & 3rd position.
For the moment he may be best suited to play on the wing, but in 2-3 years that may change.

I'll respond to you Blaise in this thread...

Great to see him involved. Even if Roldan does not get called again, I doubt Gio will get called at this time. Best you can hope for I think is a call to the U-23 for Olympic qualifying.

I was reading an article about how they have learned to be careful with the players and try to keep them with their age groups as much as possible. Big Picture kinda view.

I personally don't think Gio is quite ready yet. I would be surprised if he gets consistent first team call-ups and playing time. But if he manages to impress, I am all for him.

I think this is more of a litmus test. But like Dortmund, it might be of use to call him up and get him familiarity with the camp. Especially, as it is a need position for us.

But wouldn't break my heart not to see him at this time. The time for WC qualifying is approaching and our next game is not until March, if I recall.

Who's "they" in this situation, the USSF or BvB?
From what I've seen BvB tends to allow players to progress if they're level of play warrants. Gio has been fairly dominant in the U-19 age bracket....so am not surprised he's been part of the senior training. If he does well in training he could get some minutes during the winter break friendlies.
If you're referencing the USSF....they've been burned in the past by trying to force players to the Sr. Team. However that was predominantly when we had a veteran heavy squad, made up of players in their prime (25-29) which we currently don't.
Our current team has a heavy youth presence currently playing critical roles in the team (Pulisic, Adams, McKennie, Dest, Sargent, Cannon). These young players likely have more in common with Reyna and can help him transition better than some of the previous USMNT teams were able.

Yes USSF, the article was about mistakes in the past and how they now handle youth.

Reyna started and scored against Feyenoord. Looks likely Reyna will be a first team player in the second half of the season. If he does become a first team player, does this mean USMNT? Or would you rather him be on the Olympic team this summer?

I think the best age eligible players should go to the Olympics and try to win the whole damn thang. We have the least interest we've had in the game in over 20 yrs and the program needs PR lift and the Olympics is that.

In the meantime, the best players who are playing at the highest level regardless of age should be a part of spring friendlies.

Yep. Promoted to Dortmund's first team. Looks like he is on a good trajectory. USMNT in March?
