Fall/Winter 2019 Games:

What I'd love to see:

--Sargent
Pulisic-Holmes-McKennie-Boyd
----Adams
Robinson-Miazga-Brooks-Lima
---Steffan

I'll do anything to get rid of Trapp and Bradley. And to get Holmes in there.

Given we get constant injuries, I think Holmes and Pomykal can compete for that spot.

I was watching the Canada-Cuba game earlier. Cuba is god awful, we can definitely try some new players against them. Canada's attack is very good (we know about Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David (New York born) is an excellent young striker, Lucas Cavallini and Junior Hoilett are good) and Scott Arfield's been a great addition in midfield, but they're shaky on defense. That will be interesting playing them twice, they are a much improved team.

ill be interested to see if canada's coach succeeds. he was previously the women's coach, and succeeded in the womens game. i'll be interested to see how it translates. Personally think he is a good coach that might finally get Canada to the hex

I think it will be interesting to see how Ream fairs against better competition. I start to wonder if this is the last chance for Omar, Ream and Trapp.

But agreed it will be interesting to play Canada twice, it's definitely a better test and measurement of what we got. This isn't bad but I think you can include Weah, I'd give Chris Richard a look and I'd rather have Yedlin over Robinson. Robinson seems to lack composure/calm. But that is what I'd like to see our next semi competitive round of matches, not sure when that actually is.

@db707- on the other thread we briefly discussed the importance of these games. I don't disagree we shouldn't send a few guys to play on a used pineapple field in Cuba, and that we should beat them at home with a B team- I don't think the same can be said of what I make to be a hungry Canada squad (who will also probably go 2-0 vs Cuba). We need to beat them and keep them down while building our confidence. Players should be cap tied and pushed up from the u20s etc but at the same time it will be hard to not try and keep some continuity among the group currently playing....

So much depends on the outcome of this tournament (the Gold Cup) for many teams whether they had a good or bad tournament and I don't think the USA is any different.

We should play the A lineup against Canada, and B lineup against Cuba. The way the schedule works, we could be 6 points behind Canada before we ever play a match in the Nations League. Say we drop points to Canada and need a result in Cuba, which is our last match. I'd still send Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, etc. back to their clubs. Nations League is great to get the rest of the region playing more often, but I don't value winning it more than the health of our few irreplaceable players (not saying that you do).

Maybe when Yedlin comes back we can put him at LB. I think Berhalter will prefer Pomykal over Holmes merely due to MLS bias

But Paxton is good and younger...I thought we all liked him as a prospect.

Paxton is good and has more potential than Holmes, but its always good to fight for a spot and i think Holmes is just a bit better right now in the scrappy international game.

In at least 1 of the home games (Cuba) I'd like to see a line-up that puts what could be our best XI for the Hex on the field in their natural positions.

-----------------Sargent--------------
---Pulisic------------------------Boyd---
------------------Holmes--------------
--------McKennie-----------Adams-------
--Lima-------Brooks-------Miazga-----Yedlin--
-----------------Steffen---------------

Bench: Horvath, Robinson, Long, Zimmerman, Paxton, Weah, Jozy/Zardes

The versatility of Lima (LB/RB), Adams (CDM/RB), Holmes (CM/WM) provides a lot of flexibility to the formation switches if necessary.

Since this will be the start of the European season it may be best for some of the younger guys (CCV, EPB, etc....) to stay with their clubs in order to solidify their spots as starters with their clubs. While others who are likely to start the season as subs for their clubs (Robinson, Sargent, & Weah) could help prove their worth and get integrated into the Sr. team a little more.
