The season is young. I'm not too worried. However he needs to show more in Premier League games. He was a bit unlucky to not get in any of the last few games. I do believe Lampard likes him. Chelsea is in a lot of competitions.

But that being said...don't be surprised to see CP left completely out of the team for the near future in the PL fixtures now that Hudson-Odoi is fit again.

I don't care that it's early, if he's fit and not even making the game day 18-I don't even care if it's 2 weeks-it's a disaster.

How is it a disaster? He has played okay but others are in better form and deserve the time. It takes a while to get used o new teammates and their movements...Mount and Abraham have played together since their early teens so there is chemistry there...same with the other players at Chelsea.

IMO this may not be a bad thing...better to get form and get acclimated than to be thrown out there and become more and more lost and lose confidence. He is our best player and we sometimes forget he is just 21 and has room to improve.

Lampard does seem to really want to improve him, so he will in all likelihood spell out what he needs to do to get on the pitch and work with him to get there. Pedro and Willian are not getting any younger and one, if not both, won't be there next season.

In the EPL you get 7 subs and right now the choice for 7th sub will presumably be between CP and Pedro now that Hudson-Odoi is back and seemingly 3rd choice right now.

I think the disaster is pretty self-evident if he went from regular run, even if off the bench, at a very good team in a top 5 league (a team that is better than Chelsea at the moment) to not even making the bench for Chelsea.

It's also problematic when Pedro and Mount aren't even playing well.

Wait - did i miss something? when did he get completely left out of the 18? Thought he has always at least made the bench.

It hasn't happened yet...but with another winger returning from injury, it will become a distinct possibility in the near future.

It doesn't look good. Lampard had some article about connection of the academy and first team. I am doubtful we will see CP in any meaningful way until he does something meaningful in his limited game time, his confidence seems to be taking a hit. He looked timid last time out.

Short term yes, long term no.

Lampards two top assistants both worked in the Chelsea academy so yes, the academy will get a look. Given how well some of them have done, expect even more this year.

However most of the brightest prospects are midfielders and defenders, so they will not be in direct competition with CP.

CP was bought with an eye towards three factors: 1) Eden Hazard was going to Real Madrid 2) Bayern Munichs pursuit of Callum Hudson-Odoi and his refusal to sign a new contract and 3) sell shirts and garner interest in the American market. They have gotten the boost in the US market and Hazard left. Hudson-Odoi did eventually sign his contract so there was more competition and nobody expected Mason Mount to play this well this early.

Pedro will probably be gone next year and Willians contract will be up and he seems like he wants to leave. Right now there does not seem to be anyone in the academy or on loan ready to step up. the only worry for him will be that the transfer ban will be over next summer and if they are unhappy with his progress, they may buy someone to compete with him.

A little adversity can be a great educator sometimes. If he can break through this he will be much the better player for it.

Today we saw Mount play deeper in midfield and Pedro and Willian start. Kante was rested, CP was on the bench but DNP. With Ruben Loftus-Cheek close to recovery, spots on the bench will be harder to come by for CP.

So short term he will not be featuring as much...but if he takes the time to acclimitize to the game in the EPL and his teammates, he should be set for a better run in the next year.

I can agree with short term vs long term. But really has MM been extraordinary? I think with the case of MM, that's Lampard's guy.

I think CP can do better than MM. Just needs to see the field. And CP's comments about feeling frustrated and not being told what he needs to do in training to improve combined with Lampard's comments about connection seems to think CP will not see the field much until the latter half of the season.

I think Pedro and Willan are both better at this stage in the careers. But Mason Mount is inferior to CP talent wise. I think time will expose Mason Mount serviceable but not great.

The question is will Lampard stick with his guy for the Chelsea team (academy and first team) or go with CP as is quality will show?

Right now, I think he is going to go with Chelsea and I hope CP can endure and not have his confidence shaken.

I see things a bit differently.

Mount just made the England squad last month. He is more of an attacking midfielder than a winger but he has played on the wing and scored a few times. He has been effective and yes, he is Lampard's guy. The Chelsea supporters are quite happy that academy players are getting their chances so Lampard does have the mob behind him.
Mount will also get time in the midfield, where he may be more effective. Ross Barkley has been playing himself off the pitch.

When Ruben Loftus Cheek is fit, it will create an even bigger problem for Lampard regarding his squad selection. Because of Mount's flexibility, it may be that Chelsea will decide to sell Pedro in January.

For what it is worth, the Chelsea fans have not soured on CP...they just think he needs a little more time to get adjusted to the EPL and his new teammates.

Just saying Dortmund looks like they need a player like Pulisic right now. Still think he should have stayed another few more years in Dortmund.

But in saying this it looks like Reyna is getting closer to seeing first team minutes with Dortmund which would be awesome. He has been training regularly with the first team.

He got on for 10 min and provided an assist with a sweet pass. So at least he is taking what opportunities come his way.

He also has the support of his teammates who say he is working hard and training well. I think he can still be successful, he just needs to keep his head down and keep working hard.

That's 4 assists on the year in all comps. I think he is playing absolutely fine. I'm sure he will get more minutes.
