Norwich paid Hannover 200,000 euros in training compensation which is wild for a player that can't get a work permit.

Also Berhalter was going to call up Soto for the March friendlies

Not so crazy when you consider you can recoup a nice percentage of that cost in loan fees.

Add to that if he does well, he is an avenue into the American market. How many Pulisic Chelsea shirts do you see in the U.S.? Granted, it will be a fraction of that, and you do not see many Miazga or Novakovich Reading shirts, but it is still something.

Also with the end of Brexit, Americans are more likely to get work visas. So you might see an increase in US players in England.

One of the driving forces behind Brexit was to make it more difficult for non-UK citizens to enter/work, not less. Not sure if they will have exceptions for Americans.

You are right, I was mainly quoting the article about Soto. The author seems to think it will level the playing field to other countries. But I didn't think enough about it when I posted.

Soto is another guy who hasn't really made it yet. Currently in the Dutch second division on loan, let's at least see how he pans out before passing judgment either way. I remember how the sky was falling when Jonathan Gonzalez defected to play for Mexico, how it was the worst thing ever, and Gonzalez has 62 total minutes of game time as a sub for Monterrey in 11 games this season.

Kind of crazy but I guess he can play for Chile while under 21 and still switch back to USA so this isn't the end of the conversation...

If he wants to switch fine, it shows either he lacks confidence that he will make it with us or his heart isn't with US Nats either way let him go.
But frankly I was never impressed with him-but wish him the best

Soto can make that move if he wants. Frankly he may or may not come good. Chile is struggling right now with lack of quality young players.

Brexit and his move to Norwich may have a small impact on his decision. Chile is going through a transition and if he isn't going to get calls from us playing for Chile would speed up his ability to get work permit.
