Congrats to Horvath for playing in his 100th professional match yesterday vs Anderlecht. Pretty impressive that 22 of them have been in Champions League and Europa League competitions.

Horvath is making a very strong case to be the USMNT #1. If Steffens work permit weren't contingent on his caps, I'd think Horvath would give Berhalter a problem this upcoming window. It's a good problem to have. Should be interesting to see how things shape up once qualifying starts.

Give it 1 more year at Brugge. He'll move up and out.

I'm fascinated by this "battle" between him and Steffen. We were so worried about who would step up after Guzan and Howard and we just re-upped new keepers.

Idk who everyone rates above the other but Horvath is making a great case for himself.

I would be pretty tough though for either of them to become as great as Tim Howard was, but I hope I become pleasantly surprised. Each of them seem to have great potential .

It's hard to tell how players will ultimately turn out, but Horvath & Steffen are arguably on a similar track (or better) than Howard. Timmy started in an MLS that is inferior to the MLS of today, Spent 3 yrs with Man-U (peak level), than transferred to a mid-table Everton side where he spent the bulk of his Career.

Howard:
18 - North Jersey Imperials - 16 appearances
19-24 MetroStars - 88 appearances
24-27 Man United - 45 appearances (Highest Level)
27-37 Everton - 354 appearances
23 1st USMNT Cap

Horvath: * already has Europa & UEFA Experience
17-21 Molde - 39 appearances
21-(24) Brugge - 34 appearances (to date)
20 1st USMNT Cap

Steffen:
19-20 Freiberg II - 14 appearances
20-24 Columbus Crew - 63 appearances (to date)
24- Man City - TBD
22 1st USMNT Cap

I'd argue that Steffen is actually slightly ahead of where Timmy was at the same age strictly due to the fact MLS has improved significantly since 1998. While Horvath is slightly behind Timmy, with but has an equalizer in that he's already played in the Champion's League.

The Challenge for Horvath & Steffen is can they stay healthy and get minutes for as long as Timmy did.

Keep up with the latest moves by Americans around the world during the January transfer window.
