Yeah, I don't disagree at all. I think you have a fairly rational take on it. Only playing devils advocate and trying to think of a possible explanation.

Holmes might have gotten a bit shafted... but I don't really think there are any other glaring omissions/inclusions.

I've explained before why Trapp and Bradley do actually make some sense over a guy like Morales. Those selections also shouldn't be surprising or controversial... Trapp was his captain at Columbus and he specifically said Bradley still had a role.

Zardes, although I don't like him, plays week in week out and scores consistently. He also scored a bunch for Berhalter last year for the Crew... no shock there.

Morris/Ramirez over Wood/Nova might be the only one that immediately jumps out to me... but Wood is in poor form and his minutes are dwindling, while Nova... well... maybe he is going with the U23s.

Let's pretend you're not a fanboy.

Would you call a 2nd or 3rd Division player over a 1st Division player?
Would you not even assess the first division player in a non competitive game?
Literally, has Trapp ever made an impact against WC competition?
When was the last time Bradley was impactful against world class competition? 5 yrs?

Johnathan Lewis isn't a regular starter, Baird didn't impress, Roldan has never impressed and all 3 of them you believe deserve a call or have shown more ability than Sonora?
Like what have they done to solidify return calls?

The problem is in a short sample he's shown unconditional bias to more limited ability and less qualified players who happen to be in mls.

Omar Gonzalez are you serious? I also don't get the midfield unless he's changing things up. Seems a little too reliant CDMs... Bradley Trapp Adams Roldan McKennie Lletget it's overkill.. Gotta agree with @scout it's a trash squad. Omar Gonzalez I'll say it again. Terrible.

Maybe Gregg needs someone to teach the defenders how to score spectacular own goals?

hahahaha. Or how to pretend to care but don't.

That guy more than anyone besides Arena was responsible for failure in not just that game, but many others. Gonzalez makes me more angry when I see him smile that fake cheesy for the cameras bullshit smile like he's sorry. Terrible.

Can't wait to see the comments after each game regardless of the result. People have already made their decisions no matter who would have been called in. Nothing is ever good enough for some.

You're welcome on the Senegal bandwagon. At least my Senegal team can qualify for the World Cup. And there's no Wil Trapp.

Assuming all of the youngsters are with their respective youth teams this team is really only missing 2/3 players.

I was curious if FJ was going to make his way back into the squad but not too surprised he isn't there.

Would have been nice to see Morales but I also wouldn't be surprised if he didn't/wouldn't accept a call up in the first place. He isn't a starter for me because Adams and MK but nobody can deny that on merit alone he warrants a look. Especially if you call in someone like Ream because that throws out a lot of the "too old" logic.

Never seen Holmes play but given the fact that USMNT doesn't have a ton of players playing at a high level that can do much in the attacking third right now I would have liked to have seen what he can do.

So, this team is a bit of a bummer but as long as the youngsters are called up for the youth teams, specifically the U23, I suppose it isn't as bad as I first thought.

Yeah, don't get so bummed guys. The reason this roster sucks is all the good young players have been called back to the youth team ie. CCV, Weah, ect. We also are suffering from injuries, like Dwilliams and Cameroon. It will get better.

And Morales, Sonora, Holmes, Wood, Gall?

I was surprised Wood was left off too. I know he hasn't played much for a terrible Bundesliga team (and when on he hasn't looked great but that could be do to the team around him) but given the alternatives it still seems like he should be there.

Curious about Gall too. I know he doesn't play at the highest level but considering what we saw from Baird it would have been nice to see him instead. Never seen Gall play though, to be fair.

Is Sonora U23 eligible?

The only good from this is the fact there will be U-23 matches. Looking at the US Soccer webpage, the last update to the U-23 section was 2016!

You know, instead of just camp cupcake, why not have a more active U-23 program to further identify and integrate players?

For all we know maybe some of these guys want to stay with their club teams. Maybe some of these teams asked that the players remain. I remember Ream's coach getting angry once because they called him away for a couple of friendly matches and he played 5 min.I am all for capping young players but only if you intend to give them some meaningful minutes, not 3 min of stoppage time. I don't get some of the roster selections either. . . just not going to get all bent out of shape over a couple of friendlies.

It is because that is one of the main reasons that United States Mens Soccer sucks so much. Unlike all the other countries, we really don't care about our youth players. U.S. Clubs only care about the money from their young players and could care less about their quality and development.

The problem is this friendly roster will shape most of the GC roster if not all, because GB was continuity and system fits...
