Sunday's game was against a top 5 club in the world and the reports ive read said his defense was good, which is his role.
We can't throw out trash, average, good, very good, without some context.
If Tyler is average I need to know average compared to who?
Bcuz he plays a very important role for a top 16 team in the world.
I just don't think Blaise values defensive minded midfielders which are a very important part of any good team.

Yep, it frustrates me too when posters say a guys sucks or is average etc without offering any proof or at least a thought as to why they feel that way. Everything is context based as well. Average on a top team in the Bundesliga is probably elite in MLS for example. As I said before we on this forum we are fans not coaches for a professional football team so our options are just opinions anyway.

He literally believes that teams don't need a defensive midfielder-just a bunch of dudes that can take guys 1v1 and make a couple of forward passes.

@Kamp If I said to you N'Golo Kante was an avg player, would you say I have no business commenting on soccer or I'm just entitled to my opinion?
My point is we have we have to have some baseline of common sensibility to have credible discourse about the game.

Yes you are correct, I would think you were stupid. That is why I ignore so many stupid post on this forum and don't even comment on them.
I usually base my opinion on
1. what i have witnessed and
2. What that players coaches think of them
3. What that players club team fans think of them.
What would be a baseline of common sensibility on this site because I truly don't know.

Well in football, players are generally judged by the quality of their league and team as a baseline.
Then how their performances are rated by analysts.
The top top players receive honors by their clubs and leagues.
If you're not in a top league, you just have to know what to look for, generally players under 21 that make a significant impact.
That's why I generally don't rate MLS players over 23 bc it's very unlikely they'll ever reach the top level.

I don't think anyone would argue that the top 5 leagues are:

EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A

I am not going to put them in any order because it really does not matter. If you're playing in one of these leagues, you should not be called an average player. It's when someone is not in one of these leagues where discussion usually vary on these boards. For example MLS has been rated as high as English Championship level by some and as low as English League two by others. Hence why I tend to just tend to go by the eye test first and foremost.

I just don't care for Adams. Jermaine Jones was our dopest defensive MF and I hated Bradley pairing with him,

You've got to give us a better explanation for saying one of our highest profile players and most accomplished young players ever is average.

I love JJ, but when JJ was Adams' age, he was in the Bundesliga 2 and he came up in the German system.

Adams for all intensive purposes is a phenom for the US pool.

He reads the game at an elite level, clogs passing lanes, is an underrated passer, and shuts down counters.

If you know how to evaluate defensive mids, you would understand why elite teams are drooling over him.

I think he needs time still for recovery. Last year, he was a phenomenal force. Waiting to see the same impact.

While I loved JJ, he had the tendency to lose focus when asked to be the CDM for the USMNT. He tended to wander, which often left us exposed. Especially when paired with Bradley who lacked the speed to make up the ground to cover the hole.

Adams is more consistent in his positional discipline. He'll sit deep, and shield the back line if that's what's asked of him. If he's asked to range forwards as the late runner he'll do that too. I'm hoping Berhaulter uses a 4-2-3-1 with Adams & McKennie as the 2 deep lying CM's. Adams as the stay at home 6 with McKennie given more authority to get forwards as an 8. Both have the speed & stamina to cover massive amounts of ground. Both excel at shutting down passing lanes and clogging the middle of the pitch.

How do you think Cordosa who doesn't start in Brazil will be better than someone that starts for a top 16 team in the world and top 2 in Germany?
Just use common sense for once lol.
Adams is good enough for some of the brightest football minds in the world, but not you lol.
