Any lineup without Holmes and Sonora, I can't take seriously

Well I dare say you could put Holmes far right in one of the TBD slots, and in that specific scenario there is no way Sonora sees the field

How about Holmes at 10, CP at wing, Sonora at the other wing?
Sonora just put in a solid 90 against the Copa Libertadores Champs at Left Wing and is a class above Baird, Arriola, Morris technically.

Nah.

Replace Yedlin with Holmes as right wingback, play Pulisic on the right and Sonora on the left up front.

In other words, Daves original would look like

--Sonora-----TBD---Pulisic---
-Robinson--McKennie--Adams--Holmes-
---CCV----Brooks--Miazga---
--------Steffen-------

He did against the Copa Libertadores Champs

Sonora didn't play well from all accounts I've read.

At this stage I'd rather have Yedlin as the right sided Wing-Back and have a rotation at the attacking positions until someone (Sonora, Holmes, Weah, etc....) can prove themselves capable of being consistent at the international level.

Historically we've always had issues when it comes to quality depth. 2010 was hard hit when we lost Gooch & CD9. 2014 became problematic when Dolo, Jozy & Aron Johannsson were injured. 2018's failed qualification was riddled with injuries during the Hex. The recent friendlies showed that we still don't have the quality of depth needed to challenge the top tier nations....Once McKennie & Pulisic were injured and Adams was released back to his club the quality of play dropped drastically.

We need a full complement of 23 who can step in and contribute without a drop-off in play. We had impact subs in the past....Benny in 2010, Yedlin in 2014, etc...
If we have enough quality on the bench we can rotate players game to game to keep the team at their peak throughout a tournament.

Having a Sonora, Holmes, Weah, or similar ready and able to step in for an injury or if someone is having a bad game would be Incredibly advantageous. Who the starters are at this point is less important than finding 23 quality players and getting them on the field in a system to succeed and gaining experience.

That's always been the problem for the USA. No depth.

Adams is the top American player right now and moving forward he should be the captain.

I'm not crazy about Yedlin as a wingback...or RB. Frankly, he doesn't handle the ball well enough to play in GB's preferred system...his distribution is poor for an RB... even in a status quo back four...he'll be in a dogfight for minutes...GB is a great teacher/communicator hopefully he can elevate Yeddy's game.

Can we really say Yedlin isn't at GB's standards?

His preferred striker has been Zardes.
His preferred wings has been Arriola, Baird, and Morris.
His preferred 6s have been Trapp and MB.
He handed Omar a start and anointed Long in his first choice pairing without any real test.
His backup 10 has been Roldan, a human cone.

GB hasn't shown any eye for technical quality at all.

While I'm not crazy about Yedlin as a wingback he is serviceable while we await the maturation of one of the more technical young prospects (Dest, Moore, Olosunde, Cannon, etc...).

He's not a perfect fit for the roll, but he does check more boxes than any other RB/WB we have in the pool right now. Can defend, adds to the attack, plays in a top league, has the necessary speed, can hit a cross, and play the simple pass. What he lacks is tight ball control and consistency in his play.

If we are playing an opponent who's our equal or better I'd prefer Yedlin be in that position than anyone else I can think of at the moment.

Adams just missed out on the midweek German cup game which Leipzig won. They are on to the semifinals as are Werder Bremen. Hopefully Adams is ready to go the full 90 again this weekend it really looks like Leipzig May qualify for champions league.

Olosunde isn't even a consistent starter on Manchester United's youth teams. He is 21 and has yet to play first team football.

Moore at 22 is currently in the 3rd division in Spain.

Yedlin at 21 was starting in the Premier League and hasn't looked back since. Moore and Olosunde have no shot at eclipsing Yedlin in anything. And they certainly aren't more technical... if they were, they wouldn't be where they are and they would be playing top flight football at the senior level.

Yedlin is also 25. He will likely be in the picture for at least another 5 years.

The only young RB out of that trio that has a shot in the next couple of years is Dest. Olosunde and Moore both have a ways to go.

Cannon and Duncan are two RB's to really keep an eye on. Cannon is 20 and Duncan is 21. Both are starters. You also have Brooks Lennon and Aron Herrera at RSL.
