I guess we can agree to disagree on him struggling 1v1. He did miss a sitter without question, but everyone has at one time or another. He had a few poor crosses and he had some good crosses. Overall he put himself in good positions and drew the defense out of shape which is what he was supposed to do. If you looking for a winger who wins every single 1v1 and delivers a perfect cross on every occasion your going to be looking for a long long time.

Do you think that we shouldn't even consider that we have better wingers that can at the very least put themselves in the right places and be better at 1v1, crossing and shooting?
I really don't think Arriola is near irreplaceable.

I've always liked Arriola so I'm a little biased but of the MLS contingent for winger I like him better than Morris, Baird, Ebobisse of what we've seen.

I think we've seen guys either stick or get knocked out with Berhalter. Acosta for one will never come back. I think Gregg is doing this one by one, and figuring out who can handle his system.

Everyone is used to the modern 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 it's hard to not conceive of our best players playing their roles they more or less do with their clubs. But let's let Gregg be Gregg. Don't you guys feel happy knowing there's a definite plan in place (even if you don't 100% agree with it) for the first time since coach Bob???

If it works it works, fine. But just like those other systems you mention, you do need a plan B in case the other team successfully counters it.

For me, I would rather have Adams putting out fires before they spread ala Kante. Give him a defined role and it is more than likely he will succeed at it.

With the hybrid, the way I see it all a team has to do is deploy a speedy winger on their left flank near the midfield line and they have instantly posed a question of the RB and the CB. If neither or both react to the man, you have problems.

Defending it, man mark Pulisic and let everyone elses natural spacing create a logjam in the middle.

I would certainly like to see what others have to offer. I would like to see more of what Weah may have to offer on the wing in particular. Winger is where I would like to see CP play as well. Arriola is at least a good depth option and maybe a starter in some cases.

It's really hard for me to rationalize that Acosta isn't good enough but Baird, Lovitz, Roldan, Zimmerman, Omar Gonzalez are in any system.

I'll agree that's Arriola is the best winger we've seen of the MLS contingent, but how do we know he's better than Holmes, Gall, Sonora when they haven't had a chance to show themselves?

I've always wanted our best players to be called in even at depth options and the plan to be built around the players. I don't think Greg is doing that.

If Greg can get a 2 goal result against a good Chile team with an MLS team, I'll be much impressed.

I don't think he will. But it's been a good start. I think having Brooks, Adams, McKennie and Pulisic in was big and it looked better with them. One step at a time. We have postseason friendlies before the gold cup. And as far as Gall, Berhalter has coached him and I think he should get a look but he's not that winger either in my opinion. Holmes, I think is as good or better than some of the other guys we've seen. I think Berhalter is knocking guys off his list one by one. He's evaluating them himself. We have our opinions he has his. I'll let this play out a little more. But I don't expect a domination of Chile like Panama and Ecuador. This will look more like the Costa Rica game.

Oh I agree. I was willing to see him there. But he is way to influential as a CM. I have had issue for people calling for Adams to be RB for awhile. And quite frankly I am not really sold on that Berhalter formation. I think a team that has any competent attacking players will exploit it consistently.

Yea I thought that going into the South American friendlies that the formation works offensively but defensively it can be a problem. Interesting to see what Berhalter does although as fans we agree Tyler Adams is our best #6.

If Berhalter was honest with himself he'd realize that the strength of the current USMNT player pool is down the spine of the field. We have Several CB's who are in form. We have 2 dynamic CM's, and a number of serviceable back-ups. What the player pool lacks is wide players & dominant strikers.

If we shift to a 3-4-3 we can get the best out of our player pool....

----Pulisic---------TBD-----TBD------
-Robinson---McKennie----Adams----Yedlin-
-----CCV-------Brooks----Miazga-----
---------------Steffen-------------

Or starting CF and Right Winger are still up for grabs (CF - Sargent, Zardes, Jozy, Wood, Morris, Nova) (RW - Weah, Arriola, Saief).
Most of the depth options are still under contention but there are options that while not perfect could at least compete with CONCACAF opponents:
Long, Zimmerman, EPB, Cannon, Moore, Lima, Mihailovic, Parks, Roldan, Trapp, Mihailovic, Lletget, Lewis, etc....
