Over the next 4 friendlies I want to see the Coaches/Ernie focus on addressing the area's where we are thinnest. I don't care if they are new players getting their first call-up, or young players who haven't gotten much attention with the Sr. Team. I just don't want to see 4 DM's fielded at the same time again.

Striker: Siebatcheu, De La Fuente
Creative MF: Tillman, Scott, Hyndman, Parks, Sonora
Wide MF: Saief, Gall, Amon, Gooch, Holmes

It may be a little early for a couple of these guys (Tillman, Amon, De La Fuente) but with the overall lack of options it might be worth calling them in so the coaches at least can see where they are in their development compared to the more regular call-ups.

I'd leave any new faces from MLS until the January camp. Players like Canouse, Durkin, Cannon, etc... will get a longer camp and a show their ability against a more equal level opponent, before we ask them to compete against big league talent.

We're also super thin in goal. Steffen's done well by and large, but after him it's a mess. Call in somebody who's actually playing, we've seen Horvath, Bono, Hamid enough for now. Gonzalez, Frei, Melia, Kronholm and Westberg come to mind as new (uncapped) options. As I've noted I don't know why Guzan can't be a backup option at least through the Gold Cup. Would rather have a proven commodity backing up Steffen for now than gamble that a keeper who isn't playing is going to pan out for 2022.

Doesn't matter, these games are called friendlies! You want to see attacking fluid soccer or back passing no attacking soccer ? I guarantee MLS has a secret agreement with the US Soccer to feature a certain amount of MLS players.

•If Acosta was so good why did he get traded to Colorado and has no offers to play in Europe?
•Efrain Alvarez is better than Will Trapp
• Sabbi and Saief are better than Arriola
• I'd rather see Parks, Zelalem, Sonora than Roldan or Delgado

While I do agree we need to look at the keeper position, I am less concerned with our GK depth at the moment than I am at other positions. We should see a number of options called into the January camp since most of our GK options are in MLS.
1) Steffen - A young keeper who is doing well. Likely the Starting keeper right now who will hopefully continue to improve. If/When he goes back to Europe I hope it's at a club & time when he'll be the #1 for the club.
2) Guzan - Still a usable keeper and when we are back to games that matter i expect he'll be in the 23. How much longer he'll be around is TBD, but it'll be through next summer at least. TBD how Brad will be used...as a back-up or a starter for away games, or the 3rd string veteran mentor.
3) Hamid, Gonzalez, Frei, Melia & others are all capable of being the 3rd keeper. They may not be up to facing top tier opposition, but they are good enough right now to fill the roll against all CONCACAF opposition not named Mexico & CR.
4) Horvath, Klingsman, & Others are still developing.

Carter-Vickers, Holmes, Cameron and Saief all made their season league debuts off the bench today. Hopefully Holmes can get enough minutes at Derby to warrant calling him for the November friendlies.

@2tone What do you think is Nagbe's best position on this team and where does he rank in the depth chart of that position?

If Nagbe is brought back into the squad (guessing in January) to me he'd be another #8 that could provide a different look/option off the bench. But how long he's in the picture will depend on how quickly the younger generation progress over the next year or 2. As the USMNT is building up a nice pool of CM's to choose from:
Center Defensive Midfielder (#6): McKennie, Adams, Acosta, Trapp, Canouse, Williams, Morales, Durkin, Bradley
Box-to-Box Center Midfield (#8): McKennie, Adams, Parks, Hyndman, Nagbe,
Attacking Center Mid (#10): Pulisic, Green, Saief, Scott, Hyndman,

A number of our players are versatile enough to play multiple positions so which players are chosen will depend on the new coach & their preferred formation. We have excellent options at CM and few options right now at wide position, so wouldn't be surprised to see us stick to some kind of 5 player midfield.

Somebody has to explain to me how a Bundesliga and Premier league are considered top 4 leagues and mls is considered a 3rd tier league by everyone not employed by mls or USSF, yet Trapp and Acosta are rated higher by our federation than Morales and D Will who play in Bundesliga and Premier league.
This simple foolery is a big part of the reason our national team is a joke and disrespected by the world.

Williams hasn't played a league match since March. Until he gets back in the lineup and in form at Huddersfield I'd leave him out. Morales is making a case for a recall though.

Morales was never given a real chance-some players even if they have quality do not translate into the international game. For me Morales never looked good for the Nats in his very brief appearances and yes he was played out of position.

For me the bigger exclusion was D.Will he played really well and could have added alot to our team-I never understood why he wasn't given a bigger role. actually I do, Bradley was an automatic starter so no spot for him but it would have been nice to see a jones/Dwill mid.

At this point however, given their age, I would rather see the younger guys get mins. I do not want to see Roldon, Delgado they are simply not ready for this level. I don't think Trapp should be a starter but Im ok with him being in our 23, if he goes overseas he could develop and be added depth for us.

I would be fine with bringing Dwill and Morales in to the fold late in 19' just to push the young guys and see how the kids stack up against them.
