Clint Dempsey has announced he is retiring from soccer. I for one was hoping he would get one more USMNT goal.

Legend. I can think of at least 3 goals he scored that were wrongly disallowed too, the record should be his alone.

We should have used the friendly in Cary, NC against Paraguay as a send-off for him, Howard, Beasley, and possibly Cameron...

I got a lot of push back on the boards for wanting that, with many claiming we needed to start fresh with the younger generation. A pointless game at a crappy venue is the perfect stage for a game like that. Those guys deserve a testimonial, and Dempsey won't get the send-off he deserves.

Donovan got one, but Dempsey won't? Seems like US Soccer may not want him to break the goal scoring record...

Tremendous career. One of the best Americans to lace em up.

So many big goals and funny moments. Duece was an original.

Great career and arguably the best player of his generation.

Clutch goal scorer for the USA, always a force out there and a guy the opposition had to key on. And he still he made plays. The opening goal against Ghana last World Cup may be the best goal I've seen an American score given the moment and who we were playing. Fantastic moment.

Definitely fitting he and Donovan retire with the same goals scored. I can't stand Donovan and have him lower than Deuce for sure- but this provides an endless talking point until someone comes along and breaks it.

What...nobody expects him to get a call up for a farewell game against Mexico? A final few minutes off the bench to try and break the record (until Pulisic breaks it)?

He has been an important player for us over the years and I personally would not want THAT GAME in Trinidad to be the last time he wore the jersey.

In era of vanilla type of personalities with the USMNT, Deuce will always be remembered for bringing that fiery swagger attitude. I hope to see one of our youngster take up that mantle.

I think Pulisic if he continues to grow has much of the passion and swagger of a Deuce combined with the natural ability of a Donovan (which he's building on by staying in Germany).

Deuce a cero... I'd support it.

Our two young midfielders- McKennie and Adams have that swagger. Adams is a trash talker supreme like Deuce whereas McKennie looks like he is on fire and angry out there like Dempsey. But can Sargent develop that side of his game?

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
