Anyone know what's going on with Alonso? I know he said he wanted to play for US now that he's earned his citizenship and he might qualify for a switch under FIFA rules but I haven't heard much since then. Does anyone know if he's applied for the switch?

He's trying but I believe it's a long, long shot

He's a pretty impressive #6 and I think would be fantastic in the role that JK wants out of that position.

But yea, seems unlikely from what I've read.

At this point it's highly unlikely he gets released from Cuba. He's been going through the process since the day he became a citizen but because he didn't flee a war or something worse, it's unlikely he'll be allowed to switch.

That said, he's the best #6 in MLS and has been one of Seattle's best players every year. It would be great to have him, if for nothing else but his reliability, but its highly unlikely.

I have only seen this guy a few times but I haven't been overly impressed by him. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is bad, but with the log jam in the middle of the park for the US (most of the guys are young too) he just isn't good enough.

Not the same thing my friend. Alonso doesn't play for Cuba because of political motives, no for his own will. That is his hope, because FIFA can understand that he have no choice and will never have the chance to play for Cuba again.
