I think we have been bringing up the "average" for many years, and thank God we don't have to say cap Mike Burns 75 times or Alexi Lalas 96 times anymore, because those guys sucked to be frank. But yes, we lack top guys who are above that average, with maybe a couple of exceptions.

And yes, U.S. Soccer doesn't have to broadcast how they plan to get us to a higher level as a program (where we can regularly win a full Gold Cup, advance past the Mexico Memorial Stage (round 2) of a World Cup, etc.). But they are not inspiring confidence with the complete mess of a hiring process to bring in Berhalter, and Berhalter's initial performance, which has basically been status quo.
They need to bring more people into the tent. It has gotten better since the dismantling of Bradenton. But it can't just be that Luchi Gonzalez and Eric Quill down at Dallas, Jesse Marsch and Wolyniec in New York and a few others are doing all the hard work. There are plenty of other good programs out there and masses of good players. I've seen plenty of guys better than McBride and Mihailovic in Chicago over the years and I'm not talking Steve Snow. I'm talking guys who aren't coached up good enough/ or are ignored because of either their upbringing and nationality or because of other equally dumb reasons. More inclusion and less exclusion from the old boys club is the answer. But it's hard for the guys in the mansion (USSF office HQ in Chicago) on Prairie street by the lake to see or understand the talent in the polish neighborhood or the Mexican park on the southwest side. As Earnie Stewart says "they don't speak English".

On point article on Berhalter

https://www.google.com/amp/s/worldsoccertalk....

I love how this article/editorial takes opinions or Internet rumors (like Boyd being signed by Galatasaray, which hasn't happened yet to my knowledge) and treats them as fact. Not surprising it is right up your alley then. I'm not a Berhalter fan as I have noted, but come on.

I'm also not a Berhalter fan, but the article completely lost me when the author implied that Berhalter left Adams off because he rated someone from the MLS over Adams.

Let's look at our best 11 from the 02 WC compared to now.
Friedel 02 over Steffen
Pope under Brooks 19
Berhalter under Miazga 19
Sanneh under Chandler 19
Hejduk under Yedlin 19
Maestroni under Adams 19
O'Brien push Mckennie
Donovan under Pulisic 19
Lewis under Fabian 19
McBride under Sarg 19
Reyna 02 over Holmes 19

I used a 3-5-2 to compare like tactics and matched up position or role.
Fully healthy we should be significantly better than 02 with the right player selection and tactics.
I can discuss depth if guys wanna go in further detail

No no, I think most of us are probably alright without that. Thanks.

Naïve, skewed hit piece...he doesn't allude to Adams being injured and unavailable...sounds ignorant with an ax to grind.

It's the new world. Everyone has an ax to grind. And they all think they are more qualified than the next guy.

Berhalter has shown faults, but the guy has barely been in charge and got presumably a poor USMNT to a final of a major tournament and had a chance to win. The guy deserves more time and quite frankly Berhalter will be judged on qualifying for the World Cuo and how well the USMNT plays at said World Cup.

How long will it take for Gregg to recognize that Zardes and Jozy aren't as good as Sarg or Nova?

How long will it take for Gregg to recognize that his lover Bradley isn't cut for the International game anymore?

How long will it take for Gregg to realize that Mckennie and Adams would be best used as dual 6s?

How long will it take for Gregg to recognize that Arriola and Morris aren't international caliber?

He got us to the final of arguably the worst major tournament in international soccer, while having a particularly weak draw, and didn't look good doing it.

Honestly, the only things I saw that were worthwhile from this tournament was Reggie Cannon inserting himself into the RB conversation and Long improving as the tournament wore on such that he's currently a top 4 central defender in the pool.

Bahahahaha Is it bizarre to ask your defensive midfielder to run more than 10 yards, dispossess someone in space, win a dual, clog a passing lane?

I honestly don't know how you're evaluating players or what your standards are.

But for Godsakes, can you hold all players to the same standard?

If Pulisic doesn't score or assist on 2 goals a game he was bad.

If Mckennie doesn't shut down their midfield, drive the ball into their box, have 100% passer rating and help defend in the final 3rd, he had a bad game.

If Bradley runs in a 10 yd radius and completes 20 five yd neutral passes, he was great. What the fuck lol?

@bjelks, I literally didn't say any of those things. And I previously stated I hope we can put Bradley (and Altidore) out to pasture now. You seem to take Bradley starting personally though.
