For whatever reason, luck just doesn't seem to be on Jozy's side when it comes to the national team. Either he doesn't perform well when it really counts (WCQ or WC) or he is injured at a crucial time.

If Jozy keeps on scoring goals the way he is right now, he is most definitely our starting striker at the Gold Cup. He might be in the best form of his career right now.

Better than 2012-13?

The best game Jozy ever played for the national team was that meaningless friendly in Bosnia where he had a second half hat trick. He gets a bad rap though, 41 goals in 110 caps is still a good strike rate.

Unless he is injured, Jozy will be in the Gold Cup squad. As will Zardes.

My guess is that both Trapp and Bradley will be in the squad too...

I agree with your assessment that they will be absolutely be in the squad.
The real question is should they? Frankly I do not think any of those 4 should be on the GC 23.

Bradley's is a known we know his ability and liabilities we will not learn anything new about Bradley we don't already know

Trapp-same

Zardes we know how looks on the int stage-he will always work hard, run fast and provide 2 good passes a game but will have a horrible touch etc

Jozy-yes he is playing well now but
1. He is injured often
2. he was the guy walking when we were needed a goal to go to the world cup

Im holding out hope we see some new faces

If I am basing Gold Cup call ups on which strikers are in form this is who I would call up:

1. Jozy
2. Zardes
3. Novakovich
4. Weah: I still think he is a striker not a wide player.

And then I have Sargent with the U-20's.

Johansson has a month to possibly play his way onto the roster.

Jozy's work rate has always sucked, but on current form, he's the best striker in the pool. I'd still have Sargent with the senior team, though, and getting a lot of minutes, because I think he'll be the better player. I don't see any way Jozy should be left off the squad (absent injury).

Has Johannsson even played for Werder Bremen since he was cleared? I'd be hesitant to pick a player we know is super injury prone with a 23 man roster and no replacements allowed under the new rules.

I don't think he's played. I only recall seeing him on the bench once.

He'd need to score a bunch of goals in that month to even be considered. Even then he's still a big risk.

we agree but from a different perspective. AJ would certainly need to be included based on talent/skill. But I wouldn't hold him out b.c he doesn't score goals in the next month or so-he needs time to get back into form/shape --I would hold him out until he proves he can stay healthy. If healthy he would almost always be included in the 23. Zero chance Zardes/morris are better than AJ

I would say that Nova would be ahead of zardes based on form

I would also include Wooten on the list if we are talking about current goal scoring form.

and looks like alot of younger u-23 guys are scoring and playing well--we need to look at fresh faces

He hasn't been healthy, fully, in more than 3 years, so he's really a non-factor until he can prove he can stay healthy for an extended period.
