There's no third place game and Costa Rica and Mexico are on the opposite side of the draw from us. We can only play one of the two and neither until the final.

They did away with the 3rd place game? Didn't know that.

Then yeah, not making the final is bad. Understood that T&T, Jamaica, Honduras, and Panama are on our side of the bracket. Losing to them would have been poor, but if there was a 3rd place game and we played and beat either Mexico or Costa Rica in that then it would have made things acceptable. Not a success, but not an embarrassment.

Without a 3rd place game, it is finals or bust. Still, we shouldn't expect to win. Merely making the final is sufficient. Certainly we COULD win, but Mexico is much better than we are at the moment...

if we lose to any of those 4 teams we are in a lot of trouble. many saw the loss to trinidad as the lowest point, but I don't know if we've reached the lowest of the lows. Is Guyana any good? lol... anyway i think we do make the final playing boring soccer then lose to mexico 2-0 playing boring conservative soccer. Only reason I say this is because we are hosting, and at home we can beat those guus

Do you have problems reading English?

I very clearly stated that 2nd is a success, 3rd would be acceptable, and anything less is an embarrassment. 3rd is not a success, but it doesn't rise to the level of complete failure that should cause outrage from fans.

If we finish 3rd, that means that we would likely have to beat Costa Rica or Mexico to finish in that spot. Considering the level of our current team, in all reality that isn't too bad...

Considering the level of incompetence and mls bias from the USA manager leaving Sarg off, leaving Nova off, leaving Wood off, leaving Wooten off, leaving Morales off, leaving D Will off, leaving EPB off, leaving CCV off, not addressing Fab Johnson's interest, not even inviting Gall or Sonora to camp, Greg should be thrown out with yesterday's trash for leaving a complete team off that could've won the damn tournament themselves.

Good national programs don't deal in the gray area, acceptable is success and everything else is failure.

If it's acceptable for you to make terrible player selections time after time and continue to underachieve, then we have nothing in common and you're not the kind of supporter this program needs to progress

If we don't win the tournament or come very close to it, Greg should be thrown out for his poor player evaluations and tactics.

Berhalter is on record saying he expects to win. Good, me too.

I'm just ready for the excuse that we lost because he designed a whole system for a player who isn't there or how we need more time (the 18 month waiting time for Berhalter I guess doesn't count).

It's all doom and gloom around here! We have not played a single competitive match under GB. Take a Chilllaxitive already.

It's interesting to note that the players themselves have taken responsibility for the last 2 losses. I was on vacation and didn't see the Venezuela game but heard we sucked. Several players have said that they missed assignments etc. which lead to the goals. Players have also said that they feel the system is good and their mistakes can be corrected. I like that the players appear to have bought in. I hope that it's not just lip service.

Based on the effort that I saw, I think it's very much an open question whether the players have bought in.

I applaud your positivity, but if your name isn't Pulisic, McKennie, or Trapp, you are going to toe the line because it is a new coach and all spots are up for grabs.

Of course players are going to raise their hands and accept responsibility...they should. However if you feel your place is not secure, you will not question the system...especially if the manager has publicly said he is a system coach.

Unfortunately, the ones that can bring about change on this team are quite young. If the players believe something needs to be fixed, it would have to be said by Pulisic or McKennie. They are the faces of the team and the real known quantities and the two players they dare not drop.

Results for recent Friendlies or this Gold Cup in theory should not have mattered. We should have used the recent camps to bring in new faces or euro fence guys. But since he brought in so many of the old guard the results do matter.

I wouldn't have minded if we lost 13 to nothing if we had brought in a cple guys from the u20 squad or different younger mls guys, or fringe abroad players. It would have been a great time to see the handful of guys who we could step up and hang at the senior level.

I think it actually hurts us if we win the GC or do well with these players. The majority were part of failed squad last go around. We all know what those players bring and don't bring.

I actually think GB is a good coach, I think he can bring an attacking style to us. HOWEVER I think he is a HORRIBLE talent evaluator and like many of the old coachs is too depended and loyal to MLS.

Dave Sarachan to his credit was good at scouting and tried new players-It would be interesting to have DS pick the roster and let GB coach them up.

I believe GB or any coach for that matter should be given time to put his stamp on the team. However, due GB player selection he should be on a short leash. Anything less than the finals should be a failure-

MY fear is that generally speaking (last cycle an excluded) we do well against these teams. So I am assuming even though the last 2 games were horrible that we will do well in this tournament. But what that will get us is Trapp, roldon Gonzolas ream bradley morris etc will cement thier spot on the team. Then we will never see any new players bc of "chemistry"

So sadly if we want to see progress we need to crash and burn, but frankly I don't see it happening this tournament.

Hopefully he has some grand plan-but the reality is we are short on time, we literally wasted a great opportunity to try younger or fringe guys.

So for me this gold cup is a waste-lets hope something good can come out of it

Alright, I'll get it going. What I think is a good possibility to see tonight:

- Arriola - Jozy - Boyd -
- Pulisic - McKennie -
--- Bradley ---
Ream - Zim - Miazga - Lima
--- Steffen ---

Candidly, the main question marks are:
  • Does Jozy start over Zardes?
  • Does Bradley Start over Trapp?
  • Who plays in CB?
Based on previous lineups, all of the other positions seem like they are set. Lima, Arriola, Pulisic, McKennie, Ream, etc. Does Trapp keep his spot? Does Long start? Will Zardes get the start? I also wouldn't be surprised to see Morris get the start over either Boyd or Arriola...

I will be surprised if Roldan and Long don't start. I think Trapp is in over Bradley, particularly because it's Guyana and Bradley will be saved for later. I suspect Zardes starts over Jozy for the same reason.

As long as Berhalter insists on playing Adams at RB because he thinks the passing of Trapp or Bradley, there's a huge question as to whether Berhalter is a competent coach.

pulisic jozy boyd
mckennie
trapp bradley
ream Zim Miazga Lima
Steffen

I think GB does try to get our best players on the roster on the field. He obviously ranks trapp highly but also rates bradley and jozy highly. Pushing Pulisic out wide against means that boyd and pulisic can create from wide positions while our three midfielders will be tasked with keeping possession. Lots of back passes by trapp and bradley, I'm expecting atleast one good chance for Guyana because bradley and trapp make a stupid back pass, but if we turn out a lineup like this tonight the result should be 4or 5-0.
