He had several games where he was ok under Sarachan. He has been completely inept under Berhalter. Basically zero positive contributions the last 2 games.

I agree. You can only hide him for so long.
He's not winning any duals or defending anyone in space or keeping the ball under pressure

Well they should all be embarrassed. This team isn't going to win the Gold Cup. If there isn't more youth integrated in the fall Berhalter is not the man to lead this program forward. Pomykal, Weah, Sargent, Dest, Gloster, Sands, Aaronson, Miles Robinson should all be getting looks. This team needs a shakeup.
I would take Pomykal in about any attacking position over the current crop. Don't forget Pomykal was great at RW in qualifying as well as being good at the 8.

Sounds like I made the right decision to do laundry instead of watching the game. I see it like this: we hit rock bottom in 2017, after years of warning signs. Yet U.S. Soccer still hasn't changed in any meaningful way. They handed an underqualified coach the job after a year+ charade. He has a "system" that has won jack at any level. My heart wants us to do well at the Gold Cup of course, but my head says it's just going to mask the extent of the disease for longer. Then we have the Nations League in the fall, where Canada's better than us on paper right now, dare I say. I am going to be skipping more games and don't anticipate paying to see the team play any time soon.

We have to end this good ol' boy hiring in the federation. That is why I was a fan of JK. He didn't do what he set out to do but he challenged the current mentality of US Soccer. Hiring guys like Berhalter is going back to the primitive days of before.
We need fresh, new minds from outside the federation. That will hold the federation accountable for years of mismanagement and favoritism of lesser players. Soccer is evolving, as a federation we are not. Even if we have guys that play attractive soccer, they are omitted from the selection because they don't play 'our' style and fit in with what 'we' are trying to do aka the hard-working, counter attack, ground out a result style of football. They can talk possession, possession, possession but when you continue to play guys like Roldan, Trapp, Arriola, etc...guys who can't keep possession, guys who can't pick a pass, a through ball, make the final pass, pinpoint crosses then possession will never be apart of our game.

I hate to keep bashing MLS because it has improved but because of the introduction of the international player. For the American based in MLS, it has been stagnant because for the most part we are not held accountable and are lack of creativity is protected by the quality of guys like Rooney, Ibrahimovic, J. Martinez.
That is why I would rather have a league full of foreign players than the rules of having a certain American players on the field and rosters. Look at the EPL, it(foreigner heavy rosters) made that league much better.
I look at it like this, Darwin Quintero, will probably never get another look with Colombia but if he was American, he would arguably be our best or most important player. Reasons, like this is why the integration of foreign players from soccer-passionate countries as well as countries that have players on the international circuit are important to MLS and should exceed the American-based player. Look at hockey, you will find American teams with Canadian and other foreign players and very few Americans.
We don't need Americans to make MLS successful but we need Americans who can play at the international level to be successful. So if we can have a roster full of foreign-based players that went there to get better. Let's do it! They will eventually come back to MLS and help with the evolution of that league.

I am glad I missed most of the first half. The irony from watching the highlights for me is I believe the 3-4-3 may well have cut out at least one of the goals, maybe two. Still, it would have masked another poor performance.
I would have made one change to the starters...Holmes for Roldan and set up this way:
Trapp's performances have been getting progressively worse. I think everyone but GB has figured out that Adams and McKennie are our two best central midfielders. If anyone wants Trapp overseas, it would do him the world of good to go, compete, and hopefully improve. He needs to read the game faster and make quicker decisions.
Needless to say, I have lowered my expectations for the GC. I expect the group to work out with either the top three each with 6 points each and goal difference determining places or us tied for second with goal difference deciding who goes through. It will be a nervous ride.
