Bremens coach Kohfeldt says that Sargent has to earn his minutes in a competition vs Max Kruse and Claudio Pizarro. Today he may get in there, and if he does I expect him to take his chance. Sargent, trying to earn his spot for one of the top German teams would be really impressive at his young age. Not many strikers his age and profile can force themselves into the lineup at a club in a top league doing so well (look at Weah and his non minutes played recently), but I think he can outperform Pizarro (the legend himself, old now) with his all action style, and the technical Max Kruse by showing the coach his dynamism. It's just one cup game but many an American has made a poor first impression abroad (confirming Euro bias against Americans)... I bet on Sargent to rise to the occasion and succeed where many others have not.

Seeing that he didn't make the bench today, I'd expect he probably heads back to the U23's for some more PT. If/when Bremen falls down the table, he might have a better chance.

I have a feeling he will get spot minutes in the second half of the season and might get a start or two towards the end of the season.

Sargent in 1 Bundesliga minute has a 3rd of the Premier goals Jozy had in 70 games/ 3 yrs lmao.

Another example why talent is more important than experience lol.

Out of curiosity...did you actually see the goal? If not, it was the type of goal that you rip Jozy for scoring on the regular.

But Jozy didn't score these type of goals or barely any at the top level lol (Premier League).
The pt is we have 3 guys that are better now as far as talent/ quality than Jozy has ever been.

So no, you did not see the goal. Got it.

And apparently scoring one goal makes you better than someone else has ever been. Never knew that.

Hey that can only help his chances to see more minutes in the second half of the season! Well done Josh!

Fuck just enjoy these up coming players and stop always making it a god damn debate/ diatribe about the USMNT program!

I was more impressed by Sargent's reaction after he scored and the reaction of his teammates than the fact he scored. Helping up a teammate instead of running around wildly shows some maturity. His teammates seem to appreciate him as well.

And I won't throw Jozy under the bus. He has skill limitations no doubt, but he is handy to have to combat physical defenders. Emile Heskey would be a comparison...he made space available for Michael Owen.

Good to see him score on his debut. Definitely a crap goal that Jozy (or any MLS based player) would get ripped on for scoring. If anything, Sargent stole it from Harnik - the ball was clearly going in before Sargent got his head on it.

Stay grounded though, YA fans - the reason he was selected in the first place was because Bremen had a few players unavailable. Its extremely possible that he gets sent back to the reserves.

Either way, this is good for him. It will likely help his case for getting selected to the 18 when the situation calls for it (injury, suspension to other players).

I saw the goal, but that has nothing to do with the fact Jozy scored 3 premier league goals in 70 games/ 3 yrs and has been in a 3rd tier league for 4 yrs lol.
And you still believe he's our top striker based on criteria you made up.

I'll ask you a question, are nba players better than d-league players?
You see jozy is approaching old in soccer yrs and has been in the d-league for 4 yrs lol.
