With news of Chandler accepting a call-up from Klinsmann, and by all accounts basically saying he is ready to commit to the USMNT fully does this put the USMNT as the best RB/LB tandem in CONCACAF?

I think it does. Yes Dolo is still going strong, but Chandler is the future at RB. Dolo has proved that he still has the experience, but he has also shown that he is slowing down physically as well. He can no longer bomb up and down the field, and with Klinsmann wanting his backs to be able to fly up and down the wings you know Dolo's time as the starter is coming to an end.

So now the USMNT will have Chandler at RWB and Fabian at LWB. Chandler is a better defender than Fabian, but Fabian is starting to really grow into the LB/LWB position for club and country.

Now the U.S. will have a ton of speed and physicality at both fullback poisitions, and really I could see the USMNT defense becoming dominant in the Hex. Add in possibly Gonzo, Brooks, Besler, and Hines for the CB positions and the USMNT just got deep and talented at all defensive positions in less than a month.

Here is a look at the depth chart now for Fullback.

RB: Chandler, Dolo, Parkhurst, Lichaj, Beitashour, Myers
LB: Fabian, Lichaj, Castillo, Parkhurst, Morrow

One name to keep in you brains going forward: Chris Klute. He will be the Colorado Rapids starting LB next year; just keep an eye on him he has all of the tools to become a very good LB.

Here is look at the depth chart for CB;

Cameron, Boca, Brooks, Besler, Gonzo, Goodson, Hines. Whew we may just have a dominant defense going into the Hex.

As of right now I still think Dolo is better than Chandler. Obviously that will change but Dolo is still great.

Whatever happens, Chandler is simply can't play of the left. His left foot is not passable on that side of the field.

I just wish there was a way to get Fabian Johnson into the midfield where he belongs.

I disagree about Fabian. I think he has become a very good LB. I also think he has become a better player since making his move to LB. Not to say he wasn't a good LM/RM, but for some reason he just fits LB, and now we have a LB we can rely on going forward.

But I agree about Chandler I do not want to see him at LB. His Left foot is worse than Lichajs left foot.

It's been stated over and over but until Chandler accepts a cap tying call up, we can't count on him being a part of the USMNT going forward. Friendlies are nice and all, and a great way to test out new players/try new things, but they are meaningless when it comes to Chandler. If Chandler fully commits to the US, cool. Water under the bridge. If he doesn't want to play for the US, no hard feelings (from me anyways). Just decide!!!

Same goes with Landon. If he wants to be with the team going forward. Cool, glad to have him. If he wants to retire or take a break, that's cool too. He's done a lot for the sport in this country, and he got me into the sport. He'll forever be a legend, but just decide, please!

guess we have to agree to disagree. Now that being said I think Chandler has the potential to be way better than Stevie C, but we have all seen great potential that was never realized

To me, the discussion is more about depth, not necessarily who has the best outside back combo. I throw my vote with Dolo being a better RB than Chandler right now - I don't know how you argue w/ that. Dolo continues to impress and I haven't seen a slow down. Yet. Now, come World Cup my guess is that Dolo doesn't start but provides cover.

Fabian - I think he still has a lot of upside. Still learning the position. This happens all the time w/ forwards/midfielders moving to defense. And again, he provides depth. Fabian can play in the midfield if needed.

Chandler - I just want him to play for us. I don't care too much about his wavering. He has an American father so that's good enough for me. If I had a chance to play for the German national team I'd keep my options open too. Can't blame him. And like Fabian, Chandler can move up to right mid if Landon slows down (or retires), Holden doesn't get back to where he was, etc.I'm a big fan of Zus, but is he good enough to make a World Cup squad at Right Mid? Chandler's utility is important.

Barring injury (and Chandler's national allegiance), Fabian and Chandler will be on the US Wrold Cup team. If they're not starting or not playing defense, then great, that means we found 2 guys even better. Klinsy ain't an idiot.

You can definitely make an argument that Chandler is better than Dolo. They're both very good players, but more importantly, Chandler is the better RB, tactically speaking, for Klinsmanns desired style of play. He's faster, more technical, and a better passer/crosser. Chandler is the type of player opposing defenses have to plan and adjust for.

I agree. For Klinsmann's desired tactical approach I think Chandler is the starter sooner rather than later. If Klinsmann thought Dolo was the unquestioned starter I don't think he would be going after Chandler as hard as he has.

He is going after Chandler this hard because it is unlikely that Dolo will be this strong in come WC time. Chandler has not had a spectacular season and is on a Nurnberg team that looks to be in a relegation fight all season. My guess is that he has completely dropped off of Germany's radar and he is willing to play for the US now as a result. Stevie C, on the other hand, is still captaining a good Hanover team. From a coaching standpoint, things like leadership and consistency can be just as valuable as speed and ball control. Right now Stevie is a better all around player. In 2014? My guess is Chandler will be the best option.

I sure hope Chandler will accept the call up for world cup qualifiers, if not then oh well. Dolo is a great player, but getting really old(even though it doesnt seem like it) we have plenty of right back options for the future of the nats.

Coach Kev, nice to see a fellow Savannahian.... are you a local coach? I do think we will have the best tandem though....I think Chandler will have to earn his role, I still think Dolo should start. Dolo is a much better defender though Chandler offers more going forward but until the CBs are better than what they are, we need outside backs that can defend first.

I agree with 2tone that Dolo is more experienced but not better.
