I don't know how we could justify placing Acosta and Roldan over 1st team regulars at Chelsea and Benfica lolz. I just can't. US Soccer has to get this part of player selection and evaluation right asap.

This guy ^^^^ is my favorite person on this board. Always on point with everything!

IMO, Roldan sucks

acosta and roldan need to get out of MLS asap...still have time and potential on their sides but at the current time they arent the real deal and a bit overrated by many.

With the depth emerging/developing at CM players will need to be playing at highest levels in order to secure a roster spot with the "A" Team.....

Gonzalez, McKennie, Parks, Scott, Hyndmann, Adams, Roldan, Acosta, Canouse, Senora, Jones, Stanko

There is real talent in this group. It will be up to the manager to determine the depth chart, but you have to believe that those playing consistently at a high level in Europe have an advantage over those playing in MLS. There is plenty of time between now and 2022 for the guys in MLS to garner interest from European clubs....but the sooner they go abroad the better.

When is Hyndmann going to get the Zelelam treatment?

Also, we hear alot about players getting out of MLS and into Europe. Mexico is saying much the same about their talent when should we start talking about Gonzalez to Europe chatter. I think Adams, Acosta, and Gonzalez should all look for moves within the next 2 windows.

Who is at Chelsea?
For the same reason, I hope Eric Wynalda is the new USSF Chief, I think he is one person who can shake things up.

I'm in the group that would rather play no defensive midfielders and rather just have central midfielders with a 10 (Pulisic).

For those central midfielders, I have:
  • McKennie
  • Jo.Gonzalez
  • T.Adams
  • Parks
  • K.Scott
  • K.Acosta
  • D.Williams
  • Roldan
  • Zelalem
  • Hyndman
  • Stanko
  • De La Torre
  • D.Jones
  • Durkin
  • Goslin

I also put Hyndman/K.Scott/Zelalem as well as De La Torre back up Pulisic for the attacking midfield spot.

@SamHays1999 - There are a number of questions that have to be answered before a depth chart/ranking can be determined.
1) What our formation is:
2) Where is Pulisic played....Centrally or out wide.
3) Who our opponent is
4) When are we playing...Now or 2-3 yrs from now.

IMO if we're talking about a game right now a CDM needs to be used and therefore a player like D. Williams is further up the ranks. If we're talking about a couple years from now than you've got him (Williams) placed about right.

The other question that will have a direct impact on the formation choice, and therefore the CM rankings/selections will be what Striker options are available for selection. With Dempsey & Jozy out of consideration for most, that leaves a very shallow pool to select from. In a lone striker formation we can afford to carry an extra CM, especially with the versatility that some of them have....Acosta (LB), Williams (LB) Roldan (RB), Adams (RB).

Definitely. Personally, I've said I want a lineup with Jesse Gonzalez in goal, Tyler Adams and Yedlin as the fullbacks/wingbacks, 3 CBs in CCV, Miazga, and Brooks, McKennie and Jonathan Gonzalez paired up in the midfield with Pulsiic as a 10 and 2 CFs in Wood and Sargent. I feel these are our 11 best players already, right now, regardless of position. I guess that'd be like a 5-2-1-2? I am definitely a pro-10 Pulisic person. He is fine out wide plenty of times, but from what I've seen for USMNT, Pulisic is better as a 10. And really, my CM list was based on future rather than present, you're right. Right now, Danny Williams would have to be higher. And you're right about the versatility with our CMs, that's what I love about Tyler Adams as much as anything. His ability to defend, his ability to press forward, being able to play wide or centrally well, he's wonderful.

Well for right now Kyle Scott. He has a first team squad number and has been on the bench when they have been thin at CM through injury or suspension. I guess if I was to compare the type of player physically and tactically it would be a lesser Luca Modric.

He will likely be off on loan in January. He has been bypassed by a 17 year old who has a lot more physicality and has played for the senior Wales team.

Mother effing stupid effers. I *really* hope this isn't true, but wow, what a own goal this would be if you lost Jonathon Gonzalez. How in the world was he not on the list in November. It always made sense that he might not be part of the squad because of Liga MX responsibilities, but unforgiveable if that wasn't the case.

Yes, we may have screwed the pooch, but nothing can become official until he plays in a FIFA sanctioned tournament and there are none of those until the World Cup.

In a way, it may be good for Gonzalez to explore his options and make an informed decision as to which set up is best for him. Jermaine Jones played for Germany before he played for us.

Actually since he has represented the USYNT's in official matches he'd need to file a 1 time switch with FIFA to even play in a friendly for El Tri. Filing for the switch itself would then tie him to El Tri, same as it did when Jesse Gonzalez filed and switched to the US just before the Gold Cup.

While I'm not exactly worried that the US is at risk for losing this kid....he's stated multiple times he desires to represent the USA, if the leadership/coaches don't show any interest in him in the near future (next 4 months) than I could see him potentially rethinking his position on this point.
