So I think CM/ DM is going to be a huge strength going forward the next 10 years. Here is my current depth chart:

CM:

1. McKennie- Schalke
2. Acosta- FC Dallas
3. Roldan- Sounders
4. Adams- NYRB
5. Parks- Benfica
6. Scott- Chelsea
7. Zelalem- Arsenal
8. Hyndman- Bournemouth
10. Davis- NYRB
11. Harkes- DC United

DM:

1. Williams- Huddersfield (this will be his only cycle)
2. Gonzales- Monterrey (this is our future DM)
3. Bradley- Toronto (will probably be phased out this cycle)
4. Roldan- Seattle (better as a CM)
5. Stanko- Freiburg (looking like he his breaking into the first team finally)
6. Canouse- DC United ( could be Gonzales back up)

Anybody that I forgot?

Derrick Jones, Chris Durkin, and arguably EPB at DM.

Good call about Derrick Jones and Durkin. EPB I still see at CB.

And no excuses for them (Jones and Durkin). They need to move to Europe. If they can't, they need to fight for MLS playing time. If they can't get playing time, don't blame MLS, it's on them.

I'd love to see CCV or EPB get some opportunities at Dmid just to see what it looks like. I like Derrick Jones too. I think we'll have enough distribution in the central midfield to afford a very athletic, rangy lock down Dmid...really need it against the big boy teams.

CCV and EPB are proper intl CBs and we have plenty of DM depth, no need to ruin them out of their natural positions.

I'd like to see Gonzalez as a dual 8 with Mckennie

Bjelks - both have played Dmid before and EPB played it pretty darn well. Imo, it would be tough for either to move past Brooks and Miazga. I'd rather give one of them a starting spot, instead of a back up role at CB. They're versatile enough to play both...like Cameron. They can still support both positions.

We don't have a ton of quality at the true 6. I'm not talking about deep distributing sparrow Dmids like Trapp or some other converted 8/6 hybrid...I'm talking about a real destroyer that can defend at a high International level and really protect the area in front of the back line.

A proper 6 will give the other central mids more freedom. Imo, it's our biggest problem area against quality teams...we get gashed in transition.

I agree that EPB's future probably is as a DM...and he will proabably get experience there at Man City

I just don't think EPB or CCV have the technical quality to play Mf at the intl level.
I believe a DM should be able to pass out of the back and take long range shots.
I think D Will is perfect for that and Adams can back him up or Gonzalez.

CCV doesn't but what part of the technique put you off on EPB. I think anything shot related and you're asking your whole team to participate in slaying the defense. BUt if that's the case then you're not looking for 1 way attackers (CAM LF RF etc) and more balanced two way players.

Having a dedicated CDM means he's just looking for an open guy generally the CAM or the CM closest to him. When the team goes forward he looks for the offensive guy on the other team to get close to him to cut away the pass in the event of a turnover.

Now mind you, this style is slowing become obsolete. So the bombarding CM with rotational coverage surprising the team is the new style.

So in that event our lateral players will probably look more like Germany's (when Scheiwnsteiger was out wide) or England's in the 60's or again when Gerrard and Beckham went wide.

Like Acosta and Adams. And it's understandable why they've also played rb and left back. Because they're viewed as rangy cover ground cover people type guys. So when they get out wide, the coach doesn't want them to storm like Roberto Carlos, but play like the way they play CM but on the sides.

Acosta/Adams/Mckennie will never be viewed as Nguyen, Feilhaber, Klesjtan etc as those guys never took up lateral positions with defensive assignments.

I don't know how we could justify placing Acosta and Roldan over 1st team regulars at Chelsea and Benfica lolz. I just can't. US Soccer has to get this part of player selection and evaluation right asap.
