Damn when you think about television rights, audiences, the money being put out for American players and the vested interest behind that. It almost makes me mad. Maybe some people were called in because they were part of the SUM money making cash grab over pay national players.

We can call it "King of the Losers Cup"

I am with Craig Burley on this one...it really hurts the likes of Italy and Chile not to be in the World Cup...so let's invite them to a tournament that will open the wounds of not making the World Cup! I seriously doubt they would accept.

If it happens we should use the same players who played in the hex to give them their heyday and to parade them around as the team that couldn't get it done one last time.

If we are seriously trying to do this, it makes much more sense to try and get a sanctioned U-23 tournament to get a head start on Olympic qualifying. Make it U-23 with 3 overage exceptions. This would be more palatable to the nations that did not make the WC and we could possibly make it a much larger event and invite other nations as well.

I would say make it for max 24 years old and no overagers (I don't want to see Michael Bradley or Jozy or Clint or TimH.....I just don't)

It really does depend on how you market it-provided the focus is on a developmental tournament for the new wave of players that will be participating in the next cycle for the participants, I think the respective federations would see the benefits. If you market it as encouraging everyone to bring their A team type of "tournament", then it loses the appeal for nearly everyone that would be involved.

If this happens I highly doubt established players would want to play after their club season is over. Burley is right those senior players would say hay a free vacation and we would see some ugly soccer. Which it would be pretty self evident this is for this next cycle and even if we get blown out lets find out on who we do not focus on and is there some talent there

I don't think it's a problem that SUM tries to come up with ways to make money, however seemingly shameless it might seem.

What bothers me is that USSF bends over backwards to try to appease these fools.

The depressing state is that a 19 year basically put Garber on blast, and while he was keen to clapback on Klinsmann, probably because he's a foreigner, noone of importance, not even so much as a tweet addressing the points made int he article, has even hinted that Pulisic brought these points up.

Garber said to Klinsmann bs, MLS is a perfect place for our youth.

Pulisic said bullshit.

Rey, not only Pulisic, but McKennie just said this too. I posted the article from SI Planet Futbol on his page.

True, sorry glossed over that. Sorry.

McKennie is nice, i love him, but he doesn't have Pulisic's platform at the moment.

He's literally our talisman and he's saying the powers that be are messing up. It's crazy stuff.

While we are talking about tournaments, perhaps we can also invite some of the elite youth academies in Europe to play against the MLS academies in a WC style tournament...we can call it the Garber Cup

While it will provide the MLS clubs some higher competition to play against and show Garber just how far off he is (if he isn't too blind to see it), it may also open doors for some of our better prospects to move to Europe.

I still am in favor of this idea, I agree with probably U23 with 3 overages. Chile can bring along U23s + Alexis, Vidal, and probably Bravo. Holland can bring along U23s + Memphis, Wijnaldum, and Cillessen. Italy U23s + Bonucci, Verratti, and Belotti/Immobile. We can bring U23s + Yedlin, Brooks, and Wood. Etc etc. 8 teams, 2 groups of 4, 2 teams per group advance, semifinal, 3rd place match, final. A leadup to the World Cup. It's simple, it's profitable, it could be huge across the world, it could let us cap tie guys instead of having to wait until 2019, do it.

ANYONE playing for a top tier league (la Liga, EPL, Bundeslia, etc) would NEVER be allowed by their clubs to play in a meaningless tournament so soon after the season ended. Do you think Dortmund will let Pullisic play in a meaningless tournament where he risks getting a serious long term injury? NO club will want their youth prospects facing a similar fate. So, that leaves teams using their D or E teams or worse. I can't see Italian or Dutch fans flocking to the US to see players they don't even know. You'll have mostly empty stadiums with some obscure tv station showing the games.
