Apparently USSF is trying to put together a NIT for clubs missing the World Cup. I think this brilliant, and have brought it up in here somewhere as well.

Potiential teams:

USA
Italy
Holland
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Australia/Honduras
Peru/New Zealand

I would also suggest China as they would bring in great ratings and trying to grow their game.

It would be cool. But do you really think FIFA wants another tournament taking the limelight away from the World Cup?

Stupid idea! Let it go US Soccer, you failed, now suck it up and figure out how to fix our shit, get us to the next world cup, and stop worrying about setting up a 'loser" tournament! Jesus Christ, those leading US Soccer are fucking stupid!

No. Go out and play friendlies against the best competition you can find.

Technically that's what this potential tournament is. Playing friendly games before the WC.

Far from stupid. You need to get these kids as much time on the pitch as possible. World Cup will be morning to early afternoon games here in the States. Play it at night and the ratings could be huge.

But make it a U25 tournament or something.

As long as they don't call the tournament the HeBelieves Cup, I'm good with it.

Stone88 is an OG but Mr Goods nailed this dead on. I'm glad something like this is on the table because Bruce Arena roster vs. Trinidad would've been his same exact World Cup roster. He probably would've added Saief and Lellget but we would've been bounced from the group stages at 0-3.

I honestly would be down with this, but I have another idea for this. Do it just before the World Cup, like a lead-up to the World Cup, like a good starter for the appetizer that the whole world can get around and watch. Make it a couple weeks long, have two groups of four, then it goes straight to a four team single-elimination with a semifinal, a 3rd place match, and a final.

"World Cup NIT": Mid-late May to early-mid June (before June 14)
World Cup: June 14 to July 15

Give us something of meaning in 2018, it could be beneficial. Don't have just friendlies. You get a somewhat big match feel with big clubs in Chile, Holland, and Italy.

I'd also like to see us do a throwback and do a U.S. Cup in January for the Camp Cupcake, four team round robin. Give young MLS/Scandinavia players three games to show what they can do. The "NIT" type tournament in May-early June would be 8-12 teams, featuring the players who do well in the January cup and the Europe-based players we want to start building around.

Yea, I agree with your point on Arena and the rosters. Only coach in US MNT history to bring faces out of the blue who didn't have time during qualification was Juergen.

I like the concept, but I wonder whether you could call in the players you'd want for an event like that with the end of the club season...Pulisic, McKinnie, Brooks, Miazga, CCV, etc. etc. would all be finishing club seasons, no?

Watching the game last night, err afternoon, confirmed what I believed about myself.

I enjoy watching our guys play. Sometimes its frustrating because you feel you can coach the team better. But at the end of the day, the lack of hope is not a deal breaker. Like not being in the World Cup. We're at rock bottom, and I love watching our country men trout out.

And as Pulisic pointed out, that means EVERYBODY.

shpoot forgot to make it relevant to the discussoin....

So I wouldn't pine for this.. but if FIFA and the coutnries bought into it, and look at it as a money grab.. shoot why not.

That's how I thought we should have treated the Copa. Heck we could have used experimental squads there, instead of a unsatisfactory 4th place finish, to hammer out replacements that at the end of the day were BADLY, SORELY, SEVERELY needed.
