Sorry if I'm Johnny Come Lately, or "Whoops I totally disregarded this topic before"...

But how about?

A league system that resembles Brazil, WITH MLS protection. Here me out.

ALL MLS teams get protected. 10 games are played against 5 teams in their respective cities in an additional "state regional" pyramid.

No east/west, top down, when all teams feed into the league. The top 2 teams from each pyramid get promotion into MLS. The travel costs etc get subsidized by MLS for non MLS teams AND any transfers from MLS teams to non MLS teams would be treated as out of entity. In other words Redbull would have to pay a fee for a prospect or talent that they saw in say teams like Queens Ecuatorianos.

No relegation unless you play your in pyramid games (more like conference). RedBull would play teams like NYFC but also Cosmos, RoughRiders and any start up etc. Maybe open it up to more teams or extend the season (we get too much rest as it is anyways right?)

Teams like Columbus would prove problematic unless you just lumped them into the Chicago area. Since they could more readily afford the flight schedules.

Yea so MLS continues their heirarchy, they retain aristocratic status to retain capital interest...

Teams now have a vested interest to get national exposure and there SHOULD be more than 4 to 10 teams popping up with local advertisement interest. They would play their "state " games like we play open cup... basically with no tv.. but def with interest from fans at the gates. So as long as their operationg capital gets covered by attendance they stay in business. If thye don't, they odn't make it and players find other teams that they can make it to. Then when enough teams get into the mix, you add divisions to the state pyramids.

Baseball is kinda looking at something similar. Make Baseball more regional do away with National and American Leagues and make it east West, and then have the World Series. It would be like howbit was before interleague, but instead of the Angels and Dodgers being in different leagues they are in the same.

I agree it creates a US champions league type system, and with the 30 plus teams in the pipeline you can create more regional and rivalry games. It also makes the US Open more important as well by letting teams play outside of regions.

Good call on the us open.

Baseball is still MLS tho, or vice versa, MLB is an incredible monopoly that basically destroyed or subverted for their own purpose the minor leagues.

Keep up with the latest moves by Americans around the world during the January transfer window.
